Not afk but multi tasking.
What do people use, there doesn't seem to be a ship dedicated to the purpose?

In wspace I use a BC or BS with turret mounts. Fill the lower slots with cargo expanders and warp stabs. Finally I put some ecm drones in my drone bay. |

Marsan has the right idea.. largely I use a BC they are cheap and have the highs for more than harvesters - you may have to have a blockade runner haul for you. |

Anything with 5 Turret slots, the CPU to run a set of Gas Harvester 2s, and a decent cargo bay. I think the Cane is the overall best ship ATM, due to large cargo (and lots of lowslots for expanders) and IIRC it can still fit 2x LSE+Invuln for a decent tank. I've also used the Moa fairly well, more jetcan micromanagement, but cheaper than a Cane. |

indutrials is a bad idea as you can max put 2 harvesters on some of them. so if you like to harvest at 40% efficency go on ..
else invest the time racial frig IV racial cruiser III spaceship command IV battle cruisers I / II

This is what I use in w-space. I jetcan it, and bring in the hauler (DST) when I get uncomfortable at the amount of stuff in the can.

I put a cycle reduction gang link on there too. Of course depends on your skills but anything to reduced cycle time is good. Of course you'll need to fleet with someone. Maximze your Industry Potential! - Get EVE Isk per Hour! |

If you can't fly BCs then I'd look at one of the turreted cruisers. It's a couple of days to train frigates and cruisers. The other option is a frigate or destroyer with 5 turret slots, but you'll need to move things to a can every 1-2 cycles. I like battleships as they can have a good tank, and cargo space. That said it works better in wormhole space as the gas is better (so you can recoup the cost of the ship), and you can tank the sleepers that show up.
Honestly I think Eve needs a hauler/mining ship patterned after a BC. Basically cheap with good tank, 5 turret slots, drone bay enough to have 5 mining drones plus 5 light drones and good cargo space. With bonuses to cargo cap, and mining lasers + gas harvesters cycle times for your various ship skills. This would encourage small scale mining and hauling in LS as well as provide a gas harvesting ship.
PS- Also if your jet can mining in an anomaly label the jet can something like bookmarks or ammo so people don't see it on dscan and think you are mining. As all they see is a can and a battlecruiser which makes them think you are running combat sites. |

Low sec ladar sites have zero rats. W-space sites have one wave of sleepers, which the Moa will not be able to tank. In w-space I scout it first with combat ships, in case it has Sirius sleepers or it triggers a wave. Then my alt rides shotgun and hauls. http://ridingevewormhole.blogspot.com/
