I find the worst and most boring part of having to relocate bases in this is moving ships, in fact i would go as far as to say that for me this is the most boring part of the game. I understand that moving equipment should not be easy else transporting sellable equipment will become very easy and will stop there being regional price variations for different goods. However i would ideally like there to be a ship that you could transport other ships, i know you can get a shuttle in an industrial ships. But this doesn't help when i need my indy, BS, and maybe some frigates moved everytime i want to move base. My suggestion would be to have some new industrial ships that could carry (or tow) other ships. Obviously you could not give these ships cargo holds that could fit the ships because that would unbalance the other industrial ships capacity. The thought i had was that you have a cargobay and docking clamps. Then different ships can have a different number of docking clamps. So a big indy may have 8 docking clamps while smaller ones only 2. Additionally different hull class would use a different amounts of docking clamps to dock to a ship. For example frigate could use 1, cruisers 2 and BSs 4. If you dont want these ships to become battle ready carriers then you could add a retriction that ships can only be undock and docked inside hangers. However being about to dock a ship in space would be good as then you would be able to steal ships off people if they eject before their ship is destroyed.
Just a thought i had while i was sitting here moving all my ships from one base to another YAWN
Wondered if anyone else thought this would a good idea or if this had ever been requested/suggested before

Something i just thought of that would have to be done was that industrial ships would have to use lots of clamps, else you could fill up the carrier with industrial ships and use it like a mega hauler.
Also it could be worth thinking about reducing the ships max speed by 5% per docking clamp in use.

one thing:
unless the engines are MASSIVE, then it shud drop the speed to 5% of the original, not 95% :p
still nice idea, and i also like the idea of a carrier :D something able to keep capacitors completely charged on the way to a battle. maybe something u can launch swarms of interceptors from, and collect the pods after :D

Simply decreasing ship sizes when you Repackage them would be a nice solution. And i mean decrease so far that you can store your ship(s) in an indy.
A BS should take up 6000m3 or so.
That way ganking indys will also give you more then just equipment, a ship might just pop out ---------------------------

Now THAT would be wierd.
For smaller ships repacking them to help fit them on the current indies would be cool but for somthing the size of a BS there would need to be a special ship, it just doesnt make sense that somthing the size of an apoc can be squashed up to fit inside an indy.
Some sort of super transport ship. MAke make it so only repackaged gear can fit inside these carrier classes as well to stop them being used to tranposrt multiple indies full of stuff themselves etc.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

Frigates and cruisers are more the capable of fitting in there. BSes may not be but the Devs are busy enough with Shiva. Changing the size of ships when they are repackaged wouldnt be a lot of work methinks, it would be an easy solution. And not everything has to be realistic. ---------------------------
