(Disclaimer: The views exprssed in this post pertain to the game EvE Online and not necessarily real life. The OP shall not be held responsible for any hurt feelings or sandy vaginas resulting from the viewing of this topic.) I dunno about anyone else but I've noticed the word "cyberbullying" getting thrown around on these forums lately and I for one think it's a flippin disgrace that such weakness is tolerated within the EvE community. Whatever happened to the days when whiney whiners who whiney whined about the big bad griefers griefing them were promptly ridiculed and told to HTFU? But T-Bone, cyberbullying is an important issue, it hurts people's feelings and makes them depressed, we should be considerate of each other and treat each other ethically. Bulls**t, this is exactly the kind of thinking that creeps into a society when the weak are allowed a voice and social darwinism is ignored. If someone smites you on the cheek, you don't offer them the other, you shove a 1400mm Howizter down their throat and make them regret they ever undocked. Screw your feelings, this is a game about predators and prey, if you don't like being prey learn to be a predator, if you can't manage that take your ass back to Azeroth where you belong.

Unfortunately, EVE Online has communication channels - channels which can be used to verbally harass people to the point where one would consider it 'bullying'. This has nothing to do with the game, that type of harassment is illegal and against the EULA that you agreed to when you signed up for EVE. In my opinion, CCP should have no tolerance for even minor cases of cyber bullying, and should quickly enforce permanent bans on the person (not the account) doing the bullying.

Most cases of cyber bullying are unjustified whining, yes. But there's always some real cases among them, and the OP is only ranting, there's no brainpower engaged behind this wall of text.

Cyberbullying is not blowing up the noobs spaceship (thats the game), its the smack talk in local (the offensive part of the game). Your conversation with a target should be confined to ransom demands and "gf". Smack talk is just vindictive and evil. Sometimes its the victim talking smack in local and really they are only embarrassing themselves there. They lost you won. Let it go without trying to draw tears out of it. |
