Opinions on cruise missiles and torpedos?
I've always stuck with cruise missiles in the past, beleiving the (as was) extra damage from torps wasnt worth the downsides (splash dmg expoding yours + friendly missiles / speed). I've had the cruise missile skill to lvl 5 for some time so my dmg output using them isnt too shabby.
However, with the not particularly recent advent of the torp skill giving a dmg bonus per lvl, I have to say I'm tempted. I havent got the torp skill at all, nor have ever used them - so I'm after opinion before I devote precious training time :-)
With cruise lvl 5 and a ballistic control, your average cruise is thinking about ~ 400 dmg before resistances, it's fairly nippy off the mark and the launchers can hold a good few.
Torps with skills to similar levels are promising ~ 600dmg, an extra 200dmg, per shot, per launcher - potentially 1200 extra dmg per volley on a Raven. What I'm wondering though, is -
does the splash damage from the torps explode your / friendly missiles headed for the same target?
Are they irritatingly slow?
Is the cruise missile still king for PvP?
Obv, this is all subject to change with whatever TommyBoy is cooking up - but i'd appeciate your thoughts.

Torps for close range fighting (<=20k), cruise for farther out or against SB users. (torps all get destroyed by SB, some cruise will get through).
Basically, cruise missles are very very fast, torps slow but big hitters.

I prefer torps, because its not as fun to say "You got shot by a cruise missle" as it is to say "You got torped!" _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Torps no longer splash, so they are much easier to use now. (Not so good against drones I guess). The also make very large explosions which I'm sure has an unnerving effect on your enemy -- We are the Octavian Vanguard www.octavianvanguard.net http://www.serenitymovie.com |

Im worried if you'll still get concord and/or sentrys on ur ass if u hit any one directly in flight path or by splash in empire with your torps?
Has anyone tested this?

they dont splash and now fly around objects... if u have hi torp skills, IE lvl4/5 they are just silly the now, with damage up to 650 .. their is no risk using them now.
these things will be nerfed soon though ... so get in on the act the now.

I don't know about gates or other players, but I know about rocks.
Was in a roid field in my Mega, popped a torp off at a rat that looked like it was stuck behind one of the rocks. It was a joy to watch the torp get to the rock, then navigate AROUND the rock and smack the rat.
Don't know if this is true for stargates or stations, anybody? It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!
[ 2004.10.09 02:50:23 ] (combat) Your 425mm Compressed Coil Gun I perfectly strikes Guardian Sentry, wrecking for 747.3 damage.
