this maybe sounds kinda nuts, but im proposing an idea so that i can object it, in case somebody else remembers it later.
Mining is boring as you have to move the ore to the containers all the time (if you want to mine bigtime) so a module could be made that would automatically transport ore from cargo hold to the selected (secure or unsecure) container at a sertain speed
basic one would have lets say 30 m3 / min then there would be more different...
well i had this idea.. but then i figured out it totaly sucks? why?
cause the boring mining makes this game much more social and interesting.. people usually chat while they mine to pass time, or they find something good to do, it also makes the time pay back for those who spend they time doing it... as with such modules (you could then add an asteroid autolocker and container changer :D) mining would be 100% automatical and people could do it for weeks without really playing...
so... this isnt a post to really propose making of such modules...
im also posting cause im trying to tell to those people that are bored to death while doing it... make it fun, chat with people, broese eve sites.... theres a lot you can do in this great virtual world...

A module like that would be kinda neat, actually. Ive always thought the best solution to fighting macro miners is to make some sort of in-game ability thats legal, and to some extent replicates the cheat.
I tend to have mixed feelings about mining, I mean yeah youre driving the Eve economy, but from a microeconomic perspective youre basically doing the same as you would/could in a single-player package game. Dunno, maybe theyll make ore-producing thingies I can fix onto a rock and come back to collect... _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Or perhaps we could simply make mining more interesting? A bit more then just activating your mining lasers and dragging ore into a container.
A system where knowing what youre doing will reward more then being a newbie.
Ill admitt i have no suggestions or ideas about how this could be done, but it would be nice. Mining really is boring. ---------------------------

Edited by: Von Schnopp on 18/07/2004 11:25:49 I'd like to see alternative material sources other than just the asteroids. I used to play Homeworld, Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 a lot, and I must say the resource harvesting possibilities in those games were great, you could take raws from asteroids, gas clouds and space junk, in Homeworld 2 you could even use the debris and hulks from the blown ships.
Alternative material sources, and just maybe, the occasional appearance of some rare mineral rich ship hulks randomly distributed throughout the empire after each downtime for which you'd have search using scanners and so on, just a few of them as to make mining a bit more interesting, just a handful every now and then.

There is supposed to be new things to mine in the future. I can almost see myself chasing comets around the solar system and orbiting a huge asteroid. And the feeling only gets stronger as I can see demand for comets and dark comets on the market. Hmm, will my cargo cans also stay on orbit around the comet..

this is going to sound really stupid and noob'ish but i'd like to share it with you(at least u get a laugh out of it)
i think they should scrap all expander cargo modules, i mean does it make sence having a module that can increase ur cargo by a %, no, it makes sence increasing it be the tonnage
so this is my idea, let's have the containers be equipable modules, keep them how they are now(as openable things, that ppl can use as extra haulage) but also have them equipable so u can(with a indy ship) fit them to the low slot's for a fixed increase i.e a mammoth with a cargo cap of say 5000(just an example) that has 4 low slot's, can fit 4 cargo containers(giant) with a 3900 increase for each one = a max total of 21,000.00 m3's in it, also have the containers have there own little hold(right click option on ship to open). it would make the games hauling more reallistic as in all these sci-fi movies, the supertanks always have separate cargo compartments. just a little idea, blasting goes here

as i said i think that boring mining can be made much less boring if you become a little more social and have a chat, i dont get the point of mining like this in a single player game anyway, but this isnt a single players, its a MMO, so get social and mining will be just fine.... or mine in 0.0 wount be boring either...

I do chat while mining, it however does not make the mining itself less boring. But then, if i wanna sit around, chat and move stuff into a container every 60 seconds then i might as well Log onto MSN and block some annoying n00b every 60 seconds
Mining itself is boring. Its the biggest and most important part of eve and almoast the most boring one (Hauling stuff+40 jumps is the mest boring ). This is bad, very bad.
Oh and mining in 0.0 doesnt make it less boring, it just increases your chance of getting spawned upon by rats And of course getting your mined stuff to a refinery isnt very interesting. Hell with a good set of BMS and 2 warp stabs theres no real risk in mining out there.
Anyway, telling people to go chat while mining in order to make it less interesting isnt a solution. The entire mining system needs to be changed into something usefull because right now using Macros and watching a movie downstais seems to become more and more attractive... ---------------------------

i know i know i know ....
lets have a mod
that
mines hauls and does everything for u
u can leave eve afk for a night
come back in the morning and have 100 mil scord in your hangars ... w0000000t
man ppl and these "we want things easier" threads. They are allready easy, if they were even easier we could have even more noobs in bships

A) You cant mine 100 mil in 1 night B) Your container is not your ship C) Jet Cons only last 2 hours D) Read a post and wait for the info to reach your brain before posting...
