I get the very occasional peaks at 100+, but those are rare, and honestly I was expecting something more impressive.
Am I doing something wrong? Missing something key?
Two things :: (1) Use a lot of tracking mods of the Tech 2 variety - both enhancers and computers and (2) add 20% to whatever the optimal range says cuz I can use Antimatter @ 60 km with my 425's and I get very nice hits. For instance, my optimal with 425mm Rail and antimatter says 38-39km yet I don't even get any hits until 50-60km with the best hits at 55-65km. |

Hey Joshua can you provide a good Megathron setup for us non-pvpers? Then maybe I have the courage to come out to non-empire space sometime :-)
My NPC setup for hunting Sansha (laser users) is the following:
Hi-slots
6x 425mm Railgun I's with 2 tech II Small EMP Smartbombs
Mid-slots
3 tech II cap recharger's and one tracking CPu II
Lo-slots
2x Mag Stab II's, 1x Large Accomodation Armour Repairer, 2x Armour Thermic Hardener, 1x tech II Medium Armour Repairer, 1x 1600mm Plate
Drone bay full of drones.
Easy enough to solo 1.5M Sansha Tyrants and a couple of cruisers/frigates but it can get a bit nasty if you get some of those horrible Sansha Overlords or Mutant Lords orbiting you at 10km - they take FOREVER to kill with drones and hit quite hard.

I'd advice you to put in an em hardener (instead of the 1600 I guess).
Also, killing close range NPC battleships with long range guns is easy. Just take care of any frigate webbing you. Then you just have to approach it, and to stay at it's optimal the NPC BS will travel away from you in a line = close to 0 transversal velocity.

Hmmm, I figured the extra 2200 armour was a more worthwhile slot usage than using an EM Hardener when I've already got 60% em resistance?
You're better with numbers though so convince me
Killing any NPC is easy with range, to be honest, simply because they all hurtle toward you at speed in an exact straight line.
It'd be nice if the Dev's made NPC's weave towards you..........

I would have thought 1 or 2 missile launchers would be preferable for this setup due to the decent hit points missiles give with no need to be concerned about optimal range, etc. |

Jacque Sparrow,
Fitting large launchers on a megathron is a big no-no due to the high CPU usage on hybrids and launchers.

Yeah, I don't even think there's enough CPU for 2 named medium smartbombs with my setup.

It'd be nice if the Dev's made NPC's weave towards you..........
Once you add that EM hardener, your resistence goes to 80% exactly (I'm not sure if thats better than the armor though, just thought you might want to know the new resistence).
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

Well, a typical Sansha deals 24 thermal and 20 EM base damage. With 80/60 resistance you take 24*0.2 + 20*0.4 = 12.8 damage. With 80/80 you take 24*0.2 + 20*0.2 = 8.8 damage. And that's quite a big difference...

Pick up some 425mm Carbides if nothing else for your CPU needs. They aren't terribly expensive, and allow much more flexibility for your fitting pleasure.
Good times will always be remembered. Sleep well, old friends. |

Edited by: Lentia on 18/07/2004 22:00:58 Aneu and Joshua, Your posted rail hits are like from 6 months ago right? Also youre probably using like proto-rails or something? I am having same prob as Garrack, even with a tch 2 computer, and 2 mag vortexes I am hitting for super-crap especially against therm/kin tanked NPCs. And yeah I use AM only.
Oh and Josh, have u tried 2 small launchers with defenders might be better than 2 tch2 smartbombs me thinks. They fire super fast and easy to fit. Plus I cant believe you can tank well or long with only 1 repair and 3 rechargers?
