Edited by: Serots Tramlaw on 18/12/2008 15:42:07 My apologies. This should be in FEATURES & IDEAS.
It would be nice, once in a great while, to get away from the unrelenting chill of space.
Don't get me wrong, though. Space is great, but a nice, warm breeze whilst standing on solid 'ground' for 10 minutes would prove to calm my weary soul for days or even months to come in deep space.
Of course, I'm only a month old and I'm relatively green still, only just beginning to open my eyes to the universe, but all this time in space has wrought a few ideas, ideas that, quite possibly, a Caldari Soldier could be shot for having and expressing:
What I'd like to see is:
A 'habitable' planet here and there with a docking station, allowing pilots to pay a nominal fee of ISK to leave his/her ship and explore or relax planet-side for a preset duration based on the amount of ISK paid. (Charging the fee might balance the load of pilots requesting shore leave, ensuring that the server doesn't max out with too many simultaneous requests).
This planet need not be anything special, really. Just a place for pilots to explore and to socialize with others. Or, if the spirit moves, perhaps even some NPC structures and characters could be spawned here and there to make exploration and such more inviting. Of course, creating a new environment such as this might open up an opportunity to introduce new skills and items as they become necessary if tracking bounties to planet-side locations were possible as described in the next paragraph:
It would also be cool for a pilot to be able to track NPC pirates to such planets to conduct 'away missions' wherein they could wander about either via shuttle or on foot, side-arm accompanying) to collect bounties that have gone into hiding. An agent could provide a vague location to the wanted NPC but it would be up to the pilot to utilize his/her intuition (and maybe some new gadgets) to track and 'complete' the mission.
As well, NPC stations could have the option to allow ship leave. Perhaps nothing more than a simple room could serve to allow a more casual social environment (a bar would be a suitable atmosphere). How cool would it be to be able to pull up a bar stool, grab a frosty mug and tell the tails of battles past or simply to meet the pilot that just obliterated your battle cruiser in a friendly scrap. The benefits and usefulness of social gathering places are unlimited and would most definitely be a valued addition to EVE.
I'd also presume that it would be necessary to take into consideration security levels of regions in which the planets and stations exist, allowing for either law... or not and NPC guards... or not, thus making each place a more realistic environment as they relate to the region in which they exist. Of course, 'out of body' means that there might not exist a 'second chance' like the capsule offers, translating into immediate 'corpse' status upon death if killed either in station or planet side. I'm ok with that.
Of course, with each idea above, PVP may or may not be presumed a concern and either a new technology could be introduced or not: energy beam transporters to facilitate the transport of pilots to/from planet and station locations and skill-trained side-arm weaponry to allow a pilot to either defend from others or offend others.
It's understood that such ideas would require far more servers (maybe even 1 for each planet/station created) and it's understood that such ideas would require a great deal of time and planning to create and code. However, these new abilities, if implemented, would serve EVE and its players well.
I'm also relatively certain that all of this has been proposed before... which should prove to support the idea that all of this is WANTED as game play by many.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to any feedback that CCP has to offer and any support that all of you pilots may have to offer.
Good day.
