Edited by: Haratu on 29/07/2004 02:21:32 THE WINNERS OF THE THIRD FORTNIGHTLY BEST BIOGRAPHY COMPETITION ARE:
1st prize: "Meehan" I have tried to be unbiased on this one and i must admit i have a soft spot for Meehan's teaching's in the intergalactic summit, but the formatting and easy to read bio with nice ideas gave him the winning prize. 2nd prize: "Jade Alexander" Very nice use of insight into the caldari culture and life. 3rd prize: "Agrus Ters" A bit unfair having a PIE member enter the competition (a role playing corp) but i gotta be fair. Special prize: "Twisted Face" and "Resdayn" I liked T.F. simply because it was funny. Res, because he entered in each of the 3 rounds and deserves something for trying. 500k each.
Winners will be notified by eve-mail/convo if in game (or by checking their wallet). To everyone else who entered, sorry but you can enter again in the next round.
The ROUND #4 has prizes of:
- 1st prize: Unique prize.. see post further down.
- 2nd prize: Scorpian Bpc(donation... see next post)
- 3rd prize: 1 million isk
first prize is exchangeable for isk. To enter all you have to do is write a good bio and send me a blank eve-mail with the heading 'Bio', Me and my brother will read your bio (in your info) and we will decide who wins. Competition ends on the 1st August 12:00 Eve time. Prizes may be increased before that time.
The formula for winning: Detail(4) + Eve combatability(3) + Overall effect (3) Overall effect includes stuff like formatting, emotions, story flow, etc.
There are several rules and hints:
- The bio MUST be in the 'bio' section of your character info. This is to promote people to keep them for people to read.
- Fancy pictures made with text are interesting, but will not be counted as bios
- Colour and breaks, etc. will make the bio easy to read, but what is more important is the content
- Bio should be Eve related, bios with references to other games, real life and other stuff will be ignored unless it is a seperate subsection of the bio.
- A biography may not be that you have experience as some high ranking official, if you were born in squalor then you are just as important as being born a princess.
- Longer is better. Note that the longer it is the better to use colour or break seperation though.
If you are still confused then check out my bio for an example. Colours and break info can be found at Linkage. There is also an article in the support section i have been old.
Extra rules: People who have won before can not enter again (otherwise they will keep on winning). If you have entered before but not won then you must enter again for following rounds. Your entry does NOT carry over to subsequent rounds, you must enter again.
Donations: I currently am operating the prizes out of my own pocket, if any corporation wishes to donate an item or two (which they can then escrow to the winner to avoid me stealing it ) i am willing to use it as a prize.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Edited by: Haratu on 18/07/2004 15:43:54 This round is sponsored by Shar Tegral (of the Neutrino Mining Independant) and the Eve Guardian who have donated one Scorpian Bpc. So i am going to give a little spiel on it.
For those that never read Eve guardian I will fill you in.
Eve Guardian is a player run operation that is dedicated to bringing other player news and information rapidly and efficiently. Their news is taken from reporters that they support as well as freelancers and covers a range of areas such as events, Eve life, markets and alliance news as well as a host of other stuff.
Anything else Shar wants to say about her corp or the Guardain, she is free to advertise in this thread in thanks for her donation.

You will be automatically entered into whicherver round i am running at the time, if you entered after i had already designated winners then you automatically enter the next round instead of the last one. If you are unsure if you entered the current round then send another eve-mail.

The only pertinent information that most people want to know, "Is the Scorpion BPC worth the trouble?" Well I can't tell you if it is or if it is not. It is ME 20, valuation is upon each person.
This bpc is one of many that has been placed in trust with Eve Guardian for the purposes of sponsoring event's such as Haratu's. And most especially for Haratu himself, a published author in his on right on Eve Guardian.
Eve Guardian is always interest in the stories you have to tell. Wether you wish to have the fame or wish to remain unobtrusive it doesn't matter. Nor does your skill with the written language.
We just want to hear your story.
Neutrino Mining Independants is no longer a functioning corporation. Having completed a merger with Freelancing Corporation all active pilots, except the CEO, has moved over to Freelancing. So in all regards this bpc offer is all about Haratu and Eve Guardian. Eve Guardian - Former Reporter

Does it count how long is the Bio, or is it only important what is the story? Is it important if you have a bounty on you?
Live long in prosper! (P.S.Who can't fly will die!)

I'll just put my few thoughts on this here (no attempt at harassing Haratus' competition):
My bio is very brief and says nothing about my background story (oh yes, I have one and "use" it every time I play). It's just a textual description to go with my portrait (and a teaser for people to get to know me). This feels a lot more RP than a long presentation of my history for everyone to read, knowing most of my story before even meeting me (where's the role-play in that?).

Question.
Is there a limit to the size of a Bio? The reason I ask is because I was trying to paste my bio into my char and it wouldn't let me.
I'm wondering if this is a cut/paste limit or a bio size limit I've run into.

Longer is usually more interesting, however often the longer it is the better to use good formatting like colour and paragraphs.

Yes i prefer to keep the competition in rp, and those who have bios that rp will score higher. However i am fine if you seperate your bio with a rp section and non-rp section.

The bio in-game does have a letter limit. Either shorten it or give an address to an in-game website.

Here is my bio....
Skywalker was born not long before the minmatar rebellion and as with all minmatar of the time was born into slavery. When he was still considered a child, about the age of 14, just after the rebellion had begun he managed to break free of slavery when his mother offered the last few of her belongings to a Gallantean trader who had stopped on the enslaved planet to make a delivery to one of the amarr army captains. The trader kept Skywalker in one of his cargo containers in the back of his industrial and simply told the Amarrian who did a scan of his cargo that he had biomass for a research facilty not too far away. The fake excuse easily fooled the Amarrian who had had become acustomed to biomass being transfered to many cloning facilities around the region. With the last cargo scan done and the industrial out of Amarr space the trader let Skywalker up into the small command bridge and spent the next few hours with the ship's autopilot headed back to Gallante space. With just one hour left until the ship would be safely out into Galante space and Apocolypse of the royal Amarr navy pulled up in front of the industrial ship. The pilot immediatly ordered them to stop the ship where it was and allow a team of inspectors to board the ship and inspect the cargo. The trader knew that hiding Skywalker was futile as they would inspect very carefully, he also knew that the punishment for smuggling slaves out of Amarr space would be punished with a most painful and gruisome death. With this thought in his mind he agreed to let them inspect and as soon as the communication link was closed he immidiatly put his plan into action. He took Skywalker to the side of the ship and shoved him into the escape pod. He said to him one thing as he closed the hatch, "Swear to me that you will avenge my death!". Skywalker agreed without a thought and watched as the hatch closed. As he waited for the pod to launch he heard the trader say just two words through the hatch... "My son..." as he heard these words he knew who the trader really was and why he was sacrificing himself for him. As he figured out all this the pod launched into space with autopilot already set for the syndicate region just a few jumps away he looked out the small viewing window just above his head. He watched as the inspectors went aboard the industrial ship and then the worst happened. The ship self destructed killing everyone aboard in a massive explosion. As he stared up at the remains of the ship one tear ran down his face, but as he dried it his sadness turned to anger and he repeated to himself that he would avenge his father's death no matter cost...

Sorry with the first prize announcement... to be truthful i completely forgot about it until today.
Ok, after checking my accounts and items in the bank I have decided to give a choice of a cruiser, the cruiser has to be level 1. With the cruiser will be supplied a few turrets, some various modds and some cargo items. I am willing to transport the cruiser anywhere in secure space, however can not do so for minmatar and caldari ships as i can not fly them.
This prize can be traded for 4 million isk.
Note: cargo items to be decided on day, may include drones, t2 construction items, trade goods, homeless and other stuff. This is in itself is a gamble and will be based upon your bio and how i feel on the day.

Once this round is over, would it be possible for you to post a list of all bio's in the contest (just a list of characters) so the rest of us can enjoy them as well?
