I just made this character. I want to be an engineer. Are these acceptable attributes or have I hurt myself?
Thank you in advance.

the ONLY thing attributes effect is how long it takes to train skills. It is impossible to gimp yourself out of a profession in EVE, it will just take a little longer to train the appropriate skills for what you want to do. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Will these attributes be effective for training skills then or will they make it longer? I just want to make him as efficient as possible. I just started so recreating doesn't bother me. Thank you kindly for the quick reply btw.

If this is going to be your main character, you may want to balance your stats more. I hate to see that perception skill below 6. If it were me, I'd knock intelligence down a couple more points and make perc/will both 7, if that option is available to the race/ancestry you've chosen.
As is, you'll train some things faster and other things slower. There are always learning skills and implants to boost your attributes as well.
In the end, you can train any character to do anything, given enough time.
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |

I want to be strictly an engineer, to make things. No killing and all of that. I would like to make ships, guns, ammo and anything else if possible. I wanna be some body... I wanna be a "contender"

... and yet perception and willpower remain useful attribute. You will still need to be able to fly haul/mining ships, that will include spaceship command, and navigation support skills. Willpower is the primary attribute for many Trade skills, which will be needed to buy matterials and sell products. It is also possible (or more likely inevitable) that you will find an interest in PvE/PvP combat.
If practical, I would suggest more evenly balanced attributes, but yours are only marginally imbalanced: 7-8 being perfectly balanced. Atleast you haven't made the same mistake that I did with my first engineer character by setting perception to 3.

My question to you is this:
What will you do to fund your character? If you want to make any ISK without resorting to selling GTC, you're going to have to either rely of friends for donations or get into a ship and do stuff.
You could avoid combat by either mining or doing courier missions, but you're still going to need a ship to do these, and that will require Perc and Will. Also, as above, you'll need Perc for Navigation skills in order to get things done faster.
So it may seem like you only need two attributes to be an Engineer, but that's patently false. Unless you have ISK to fund your building, you're not going to do anything without a ship, several actually, especially since you'll need to move your goods around once you build them, or want to build them with various materials that are spread out across the galaxy.
Thus you'll have to make a lot of money before you start actually being an Engineer.
And don't anybody say trading, because you need a good amount of capital if you want to succeed at trading.
