I was using my onboard scanner and I was getting close to someones mission space, but I could never bookmark the place or get an actuall distance to it :/
Do I need to use Scan Probes?
Also isnt it really fast to find people? Ive been chased around in low sec where it doesnt take long for someone to find me, so I have a feeling im doing it wrong, or dont have the right skills.
Thanks in advance :)
(and heres to ninja salvage :P)

To find someone at a safe spot or in a mission or one of those hidden belts or anything alike, you need to use a scanner, preferably with good skills and be aware that probes come in different flavors, ranges, etc.
To find people at celestial objects or stations you can use your on board scanner and adjust scan angle and the distance.

This is pretty misleading. Please do not post if you don't know what you're talking about.
You probe people down with a probe launcher (scan or recon variety). The directional scanner can find direction and you can adjust range to find the range, but you cannot warp to anything it finds for you. Try probing down mission runners in highsec for practice.

Edited by: Cyb3r Thr3at on 19/12/2008 16:43:08 You can use yer basic on-board scanner to locate targets that are by: Planets/Moons/Belts, Probes are used to find targets that are in: Safespots/Deadspace Missions, etc..

To find a specific ship you use the probes that are the same as their sensor type.
So Ladar for minmitar Gravimetric for Caldari Radar for Amarr Magnometric for Gallente
Quest probes have a max range of 4au, so you need to maneuver yourself within that range before you launch.
Quests probes dont fit in the recon launcher, this is the high speed launcher for finding ships at safe spots. It has a very small chance of finding ships in deadspace (mission spots), the quests are much more reliable but take about 4mins to run.

With close to max skills in probing and Cov Ops 5 I've found it very easy to find most ships while in dead space with regular recon probes. It is very intensive training though to get to this level.

If the missioning ship is using drones (probably everything bigger than destroyer will) try scanning them. They are easier to scan down.

This.
Just get within 10 AU according to your directional scanner, then drop a fathom probe and make sure to select the scan group for drones as well as ships.

EIGHTY-FOUR seconds? Try ... oh, never mind. Them's some nice skills there, Mynxee. They come close to my own, but if your Alt needs a job, come see me.

Yup, Tchell, that alt will have L5 in all skills associated with probing in about three weeks. Yay! And no...she doesn't need a job, we keep her plenty busy.

for a system that isnt huge you can use a recon probe launcher and spooks from the sun. that is assuming your just looking for a random mission runner and have no idea where they might be. if someone is in a closed mission youll get on the gate. if they are in an open mission you may get on grid, but if not youll have to use a stronger probe like a snoop when you land off grid. of course, if your paying attention and make good use of the directional scanner to know about where they are you could increase your chances by going to celestial objects and hope they are within 10 or 5 of the target and....im tired of typing, figure it out like everyone else.

If you say so.

Jess...you don't even have to hope--just change the range on the directional until you know for sure how far they are from any given celestial they happen to be toward. Obviously that comment is intended for the OP's enlightenment.

Nice skills Mynxee I considered Cov ops 5 but figured saving 20 secs wasn't worth the effort lol, so Sig Aq 5 was a def nono lol. But then I'm impatient. Guess 120secs will haveta do
Makes you wonder why anyone would pay the extra for the PPH-2 for a measly 3 sec increase too
Also, probed a mission runner today after an extended break, and didn't manage to start locking the Tempest in time before it aligned and warped...wtf's happened?

Maybe. It was more like the locking delay after uncloaking had increased though...it was weird
