Edited by: Nuala Reece on 18/07/2004 19:20:18 Seen this problem in various threads over the last month and a half - every so often, for no apparent reason, my computer reboots while playing eve. The problem also occurs while playing some other games. Sometimes it manages not to reboot but just freezes up instead. I never had either of these problems prior to early June.
There appears to be no pattern - it has happened during combat, while in the middle of nowhere with no other ships around, while docking and while docked, when I'm doing lots of stuff at once and when I'm doing nothing at all.
Have seen various potential fixes on the forums but none have worked so far. I've cleaned the fans on my power supply and my graphics card. I've installed a new power supply with 3 fans and my computer has never been so well cooled. I've tried the new nvidia graphics drivers as well as the last known 'bug-free-with-eve' ones. I noticed MS released a DirectX Hotfix 3 days before the first report of this problem appaeared on the forums, and tried removing it. But all with no luck. The MS updates and the eve patch are the only changes I've made to my system since June.
Switching off the automatic reboot, the BSOD indicates a graphics driver problem. So I'm still wondering if there's some kind of clash between the drivers and Windows where it comes to programmes putting a lot of demands on the graphics card.
I've tried everything I can think of, and have no new ideas for a fix. Just keeping the topic alive since the potential fixes posted previously haven't worked across the board.
If anyone has a definite solution which has worked for more than one person I'd be very glad to hear it.
Athlon 900Mhz, GeForce FX5200 Ultra 128MB with 56.72 driver currently, 53.03 previously, 384MB RAM, Windows XP Home Edition.

Athlon 900mhz - thats a fairly old system (if you don't mind me saying!).
Have you done a motherboard firmware upgrade at all? Also, you may need to update the chipset drivers. This is usually a driver pack that contains IDE and AGP driver sets etc.
Can you post the tops few lines of the BSOD error message?
"I have seen everything now." "Yeah? Have you seen a man eat his own head?" |

I had that problem for the longest time playing EverQuest... mainloy in raid situations. Turned out to be my Video Card over heating. My suggestion is to look at another fan, or another video card

overheating is not mine kind of problem, I have 100% chance of rebooting or BSOD when friend of mine fires from 125mm railgun I or 250mm light artillery cannon near me. it's bad cos we can't hunt togther, and it's not fun playing solo

Reinstall nvidea drivers but make sure any trace of the ones b4 are eradicated from your system, theres tools that can search and destroy for you if u google a bit. Also try testing your memory in case it a little dodgy. Latest motherboard chipset drivers cant hurt either. If all else fails maybe clearing BIOS and starting again if your confident enough to do that, cleared a few reboot prob for me.
Unfortunatly u are not blessed with a good nvidea card so getting a new one might be a good idea in the near future.

I had the exact same problem using a Radean 9600 Pro. Yurned out to be my drivers. I updated them and have never had the problem again. But I guess you would have looked at drivers first anyway.....

I also have the FX5200 card and the same random reboot problems. I read one sight that said the last good driver for that card was 44.03, so I completely uninstalled my current driver (56.72) and installed the old one. Played for many hours last night and not only did it not reboot, it didn't even crash. Granted I did get the occasional odd flicker, but I'll take that to rebooting any day.

That sounds like a fairly old system. An aging motherboard without full PnP might be causing IRQ conflits - Is the error that youre getting IRQ_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO? -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

Not sure if anyone's still reading this, but I tried another nvidia driver, the 53.03 driver. After 2 nights of playing the flickering from the 44.03 is gone and I still have no reboots. In short, if you have the FX 5200 card, I say get the 53.03 driver. It works great, the game looks great, and no reboots.
