I guess I'm old-fashioned, but I keep a notebook to track manufacturing and other details. All my calculations are done with spreadsheets, but I'll write down typical yields and profit margins on paper, as well jotting down my corporate goals and tracking my progress.
Its just easier to have that kind of stuff 'offline'. At least, it does for me.
So I'm curious - how do other players keep track of planning details? Is everyone else running Google Docs on their iPhone, or are there a few out there doing the paper thing like I am? - Who Dares, Wins |

And I use that for all my spread sheets and notes and whatever. Comes in real handy.

One reason I was asking, was I'm thinking about setting up a Wiki site that would be viewable in the IGB, as well as through a typical browser - players could set up individual sites for themselves, or for their corp. So stuff that would normally be written down could be posted on their own private website.
Silly idea, or an idea who's time has come?

A major problem would be trust and security. Who's to say you or someone else will not take advantage of the information listed?

I have one of these myself. Not wiki, mind you, I'm not a fan of most wiki designs. I thought about making it public, but too many trust issues. _______________ Pwett Founder <Q> QUANT Hegemony

Good points. The trust issue would be the major objection.
Perhaps a set of templates that could be loaded to one of the free group sites would be more useful.

I use Google Docs. It is free. I can get to it anywhere. I can share spreadsheets and other documents. It's great for collaboration; you can actually see other people editing the documents. You can set them read-only, private, public, whatever.
One example is having a spreadsheet for POS fuel. How much fuel you have on hand, the fueling schedules for the various towers, etc. Sharing it among corp members allows anyone with the spare time to fuel towers as needed, and update the spreadsheets.
Manufacturing is another great thing to use it for. Have a spreadsheet with a list of what needs to be manufactured and in what quantity. Anyone with manufacturing skill in the corp can put in the jobs they want, and update the spreadsheet as they go. Easiest way to coordinate a group of manufacturers.
Or how about mineral stocks? Use Google Docs to track your mineral stocks, which allows your corporate miners to target their mining better. The "mineral director" simply notes what minerals are needed and their quantities.
The uses are endless...

I would to that too if it wasn't that my laptop borked it's network card :/ Can't install / update it, and not move files to and from it.
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |
