Could it be that /api/item_orders_sell.txt is kind of buggy right now? Seems to me that it's ignoring the type_id parameter.
Compare http://eve-marketdata.com/api/item_orders_sell.txt?type_id=28583®ion_ids=10000030 with http://eve-marketdata.com/price_check.php?step=Show&type_id=28583&type=®ion_id=10000030

I love how easy it was to follow the instructions to get your market data into my ship-building spreadsheet to see where I could make the most profit. I was using OpenOffice, but the availability of this feature to import the data to Google Spreadsheets led me to move it over - a trivial operation. I imagine there's a way to construct filters and stuff in OpenOffice to do the same thing, but this process was straightforward, and I appreciate instant gratification.
Very slick! Thanks!

eve-central vs eve-marketdata: eve-central is no longer being updated. The developer said that he no longer plays eve, and just leaves the site up because it runs itself. Also, as more people upload data to me and move away from eve-central, his data gets worse and mine gets better :)
api data: check again, I found a few bugs and have fixed them. There's also a new version of the API coming out real soon that will be way easier.

Over the last month and a half I'm sure a lot of you noticed that the site was slow, and would occasionally go down (usually only for a few minutes while it auto-rebooted). The problem was that there are so many requests coming in (about a million a day now) that apache became a problem.
Apache is designed to spawn a separate thread for each request, and each request starts a php.cgi process. So that meant that each concurrent request took up like 50 megs of memory. I'm on a VPS, so the amount of memory the server gets is configurable, but I have to pay for it. Right now I'm paying about $70/mo in hosting fees.
So, getting off Apache became a priority. I spent about 2 weeks trying to get lighttpd to work and just had continuous problems. I finally gave up and tried out nginx which configured easily and has worked great in testing. I just deployed it to production, so all of you should be reading this on the new server!
This should allow me to drop my hosting costs to about $50/mo, and also scale up to about 50x the traffic there currently is.
SO, if you find any problems, or notice weird data, or have any connection problems, please let me know ASAP in-game to Kallahar or channel eve-marketdata.

While was uploading regional market data I noticed an error message telling me that the data I was sending wasn't being sent. This mystified me, everything looked fine until I noticed the date of the client had changed from October 2, 2011 to December 11, 2001.

Indeed the uploader IGB page is claiming the data isn't being sent successfully, although the uploader app is running successfully and also the market item update statistics improve by running the automatic uploader. The displayed error also asks if i'm using the key "" (empty string), so I'm not sure there is a genuine issue or if it's only a display/JS error due to IGB changes... |

Did you check the download page where it gives you a key for the uploader? I noticed it will think your not uploading properly while you still are if your on an alt with your main's key. It goes key per character so reload it in your IGB and plug it in. |

While I do love the site, as a professional linux admin I want to point out that this issue is not due to Apache, but a poorly configured and/or compiled Apache (and PHP).
I would suggest checking out FPM-PHP if you're not already using it, it should also be compatible with nginx. It should help increase your performance even more. |

Under the Statistics-Region data, it seems to hit the server pretty hard. It might be good to simply calculate that page no more often then once per hour (serving up an existing calculation if it hasn't been more then an hour since the previous calculation).
Also, on the uploads statistics page, what does the "Upload backlog" numbers indicate? I notice that EVE MarketData number tends to bounce up and down. I thought the flow was that you sent straight from the upload client to eve-marketdata and that it bypassed the evemarketeer site entirely? |

memcache.
It can seriously help, when you've got speed issues and regularly hit data you can afford not to have 'live'.
method for use, when you have the server installed is:
check to see if it's cached. if it is, unserialize the structure and use it. if it's not, generate it, serialize the structure, stick it in the cache with a expiry date, then use it.
Far faster than running db queries. |

I think you have the wrong thread ;)
I agree it would be a good idea to cache it. It would be a good idea to cache a great many things ;)
Regarding the EMD backlog. Those are the updates I downloaded from eve marketdata I still have to process. If the number is going up, it means I get data faster than I process it. Later, when things settle down, the number goes down again. Want images? |

Few performance tips. - "ip" based client tracking, how many page loads in x amount of time ... and give 503 if too much spamming. - set "Expires" response header. - follow users session, "If-Modified-Since" and give 304 if data still valid. - disable/remove not needed php modules.
Tough I can't help much else as you are trying use normal php and basic web servers .. php is monster of memory usage when starting to get some traffic.
Oh, by the way, Google Docs spreadsheet seems to obey http header Expire information (at least some extent) and automatically updates data :)

When I run (3) clients overnight on the Market Watch page to update regional data, sometimes the Market Watch page fails with a duplicate key error (some sort of log file insert). It happened two or three times today. I'm guessing that the upload log's primary key only has 1 second resolution or something from a particular IP address. |

On an individual item price check page, you currently list "best price" and "jita price".
I would like to see that expanded a bit with showing the top 5 market hub prices (along with how stale the price is in hours/days).
I'd also prefer to see the 5% sim price there in addition to the cheapest price in those market hubs. |

Yep sorry to say it is still a problem.
Kinda funny that it would be Jita/The Forge that is the issue rather than any of the other regions. Certainly doesn't seem to affect the website itself.
Other than this coming up occasionally the site has been pretty solid. |

Since it tends to impact the larger hubs - my assumption (without knowing the code) would be that the process is dying when calculating the 5% buy sim price due to the number of orders. Either it's running past a time limit and getting killed off or it's running out of a resource (like memory).

No idea. It appears that other systems in The Forge show up OK on the website. But Jita itself doesn't show at all.
In the API I'm doing a regionID call and I'm not getting anything but '0' for The Forge. Even if you eliminate Jita there should be some data available.
So it does look like a buggy script. |

Shows tritanium's Jita price as:
Best Price: Selling for 2.26ISK; Buying at 3.37ISK. Jita Price: Selling for 5,358ISK; Buying at 5,059ISK.
Maybe add a "global price" that either:
- Averages the buy 5% / sell 5% prices across the top 10 market stations - Averages the buy 5% / sell 5% prices across the top 6 hi-sec regions - Does the 5% buy/sell across all hi-sec stations in all empire regions
While Jita generally sets the price trend, it's also prone to market manipulation affecting any global price estimate used in 3rd party tools. Pulling a global price across a wider swath of empire space would be harder to manipulate as you would have to corner the market in multiple regions. |

In regards to the "Error: unable to determine if you want production or beta" that Zeta found. After some mucking around I figured out if you remove the first "api." in export address, it seems to work.
The working link may need to be edited or copy & pasted due to the fact that when you click it, the eve online forum adds "amp;" after each '&' in the address when following the link. |

Some kind of semi-live feed would be much appreciated. EVE Central has a mailing list that once a minute dumps the latest orders out in CSV and posts them to the mailing list; any subscribers get that data automatically. Alternatively, a XMPP or IRC chat bot that broadcasted out incoming data would be fine. Or if you want to get fancy, AMQP, ZeroMQ, or Webhooks are all options. |

I'm thinking there will be problems will all 3rd-party tools until they have a chance to put the new item names in, and remove all the references to the t2 blueprints removed from the market... |

I have been struggling trying to figure out how to properly import XML data into an Excel or Google Docs spreadsheet. I followed the Google Docs example given, and it worked, but that is not the information I currently want. I am trying to import Item Price History information, but I cannot find a guide/list of variables you have to put into the formula. The Google Docs example says "emd/price" on the end for the query - but what do you put in for any of the other various xml features that this service allows, such as price history? When I try anything else, it just says the info cannot be parsed. It is really crazy how there are such a vast amount of API/XML discussions out there for EVE, yet there is no concise comprehensive guide on any of it. |

I'm trying to use the outbid checker. I've signed up and given my API with the appropriate permissions. However, when I try to use the outbid checker, it says
Error: You must be in the In Game Browser and trust this website. EVE requires trust for us to automatically scan the market
Problem is, I AM using the in-game browser to access the site. Not sure what to do.

Hi,
Marker orders API (http://api.eve-marketdata.com/api/item_orders2.xml) return Range="0" for all Buy Orders. Thus making the data totally not reliable. It has been several weeks that Range="0" is returned for all Buy Orders.
Can you fix this issue ?
Thank you |

Hello,
I'm developer of EVE Mentat trade tool. Latest prototype has possibility to import data from eve-marketdata.com. Today I've received a bug report. Seems like error is caused by possibly incorrect reply from your service.
Original request: http://api.eve-marketdata.com/api/item_orders2.xml?char_name=EVE%20Mentat&buysell=a&type_ids=1944®ion_ids=10000003 It returns the same buy order (orderID = 2463495391) five times with different created attribute.
In my opinion service should return only latest information on each order. Is it "by design" or bug? Thart's alt EVE Mentat developer |

Thanks Kallahar,
I was chatting to you last night with my alt regarding http://eve-marketdata.com/developers/mysql_items_history_theforge_90.txt.gz returning an empty export. Looks like the change you made fixed it, it's now returning proper data. |

Like noted in my mail, it seems that atm uploaded orders get multiplied 5 times, which means each uploaded order is listed 5 times instead of only once.

Question...
I'm trying to figure out how I could pull volume data from this site, but I am a bit of a spreadsheet/googledocs noob.I did manage to get price data from different systems to work, but I wouldn't know how to get each item's volume specifically. Would anyone here happen to know how I could do that? :o
Much appreciated. :) - Rei |

I'm having the same problem...how do I retrieve sales volume for a particular item over the past 24 hours (or X hours) via a googledocs API call? |
