Heya, I have recently upgraded my pc and ever since then I am experiencing issues when playing eve. it seems to be only happening when playing in WINDOWED mode, the game crashes or just freezes up the computer. If it crashes, the freeze follows couple seconds later. The only solution is to turn pc off as it no longer reacts to any commands. Tried different drivers, assiging affinity, running in xp comp mode, running as administrator, turning HT on and off on the cpu and its all to no avail.
my config: Vista ultimate 64bit 6Gb ddr3 memory I7 920 cpu at 2.67ghz (no OC) ATI HD3870x2 asus p6t deluxe motherboard
the error (if I get one)
Faulting application ExeFile.exe, version 5.20.1.5197, time stamp 0x4933d143, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x3f800000, process id 0x2de8, application start time 0x01c9622a0206d29e.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Other than the CPU (a bigger version of the Core i7) and the graphics card (nVidia 200 series), my setup is identical to yours, and I've not had any problems so far, in either windowed or normal mode.
There are reports of people having issues with ATI 3870 cards and EVE in this thread however, so that may be a source of your woes.

I have the exact same setup as the OP but I have a 260/216 graphics card and have no issues at all

Thanks, This thread solved my HD4870 Fan Surging problem. I just disabled Aero display mode when I run EVE by disabling the desktop composition in the Compatibility tab of the properties for the shortcut I use to launch EVE. Did this and the problem stopped. Vista will return to Aero mode when I quit EVE.
I think the fan surge was from the video driver restarting as there were a bunch of atikmdag errors in the system log. I also had the screens (Dual monitors, window mode) go black for a couple seconds and even a blue screen once.
I also set the Present Interval in the Display Setup/Advanced Settings to "Interval one" and reduced the GPU load to 85% from 99% while in station.
