I've read the guides but misssed/couldn't find an answer to the following.
Is there any point to running a scan again if the first scan returns nothing ? Or is it partly chance based and I should scan until the probes self destruct?

If you know there is something there, you should keep scanning until the probe finds it.
Small objects dont always show up on longer range scans.

Hello there.
You need to remember that multispectral probes are 100% accurate while the others are not. As long as you are happy you have good coverage ( which looks fine ) its a matter of keeping rescanning until you get a hit. This can happen 1st try or 20th depending how lucky you are. If you do go though to the end of the quest probes without anything I would drop another multispectral just to make sure the site is still there and someone hasnt got to it first.
Be aware exploring can be lots of fun but you will need to be able to deal with lots of frustration. There will be times when the site can be a ***** to track down and also some sites may not even cover the cost of the probes you have used.

Link added for others that may happen across this thread. Also adding a Exploration PDF that, after a quick scan, looks like most of the info is correct. Continue to ask questions though
