So, I'm reaching out to the Eve community for some help (lol?).
I have a 2009 GSXR 1000 with 15000 miles on it. The motor was rebuilt at 5K miles because a car hit me and tipped the bike over, blowing up the motor (laying on its side, full throttle, no load, for approximately 5 seconds).
I now have the no/low oil pressure light coming on while the bike is idling. The light goes off at about 1700 RPM. This is very consistent. Bike normally idles at 1200 RPM. Redline is 14000 RPM.
Stuff I've replaced: oil pressure sensor (checked all wiring as well), oil pump, oil pick up tube, oil bypass valve. I've also tried different oil weights (10-40, 10-60) and different types of oil filters (OEM, K&N).
Personally, I'm thinking the guy who rebuilt the motor was a loser and did a horrible job, and now the main/rod bearings are ruined. I'm at the end of my rope, I can't think of anything else to solve the problem other than a complete engine rebuild, which I really don't want to do. I need professional advice and suggestions as to how to best proceed. I know there has to be an Eve player out there that knows what they're doing.

You would probably have more luck on a Suzuki forum 
Given that running the engine more to try to diagnose the problem is only going to cause more damage, I'd take to a specialist who knows the engines inside out. This sounds like one of those times you need to acknowledge your limits as a home mechanic. Run it with low oil pressure for too long and it won't be rebuildable.
Did the last rebuild come with any kind of warranty?
A good, low miles, second hand engine may be a cheaper way of fixing it. |

Yeah, I've hit up all the Suzuki forums. Basically, nobody knows what they're talking about. Idiots really. They all just guess and post stuff without really knowing what they're talking about. Same goes for most engine rebuild forums. They keep giving me the same generic answers. Bottom line: they have any real insight into how to do things.

Not really sure about import bikes as of yet because Ive only worked on Harleys. The problem your describing I would say is inside the engine, I would imagine something is jammed up and not letting the oil flow properly. Take it to a mechanic who wont half ass it. I just had a mechanic do the same to me but it was for the timing and carb tuning. Find another local mech, that can come listen and check it, and give you a better judgement. If he acts like a blowhard, hes the wrong mechanic. Any bike wrench who wont share knowledge is a bad mechanic. Good luck, keep the rubber down and chrome up brother. |
