I used eve-search but found no definite answers, anything from four days to never. Is there any definite or solid anecdotal information out there regarding NPC trade good prices? Do buy/sell orders actually have an effect on price recovery? Any help appreciated.

NPC order price changes on a per-station basis after each purchase, and probably (not absolutely sure) at DT. You can see it easiest in "school" station and skillbook sell orders. All orders start at "100% base" after a big patch. If volume is sufficiently low, buy orders start slowly going towards 110% base, sell orders towards 90% base.

Prices are adjusted after each DT and when people sell/buy On the first buy transaction after DT, price will go down (dunno why) from an amount depending on the volume of the transaction (if you buy the whole stock it will go down a lot more than if you buy just a few goods) on the next transactions, the price will go up until a certain treshold, and will never go above that treshold it's the opposite for sell transaction (price will first go up then down)
as Akita T said, prices will tend to certain value if untouched for a few days (it's a non linear curve, so on the first days it will change a lot but after 1 week the change will be in the 0.01 isk range) |

Down or up depending on what is better for the resale person. If you are selling the 2nd set is slightly higher giving better margin, if buying is slightly lower giving better margin.
In my experience, what ever the current buy/sell price is, if untouched, will provide 2 sales or purchases at that relative price before it changes. If you find that it only allows for one lot and changes significantly, someone else has purchased or bought the other set that day.
Prices and the 2 sales/purchase reset every DT. Going from worst to best price tends to be about 4 DT's to reset if no one has touched the item in that particular station.
