I just bought an new ship - Imicus - loaded it with 3 mining drones, 2 Mining 1 Lasers and a cargo extender and I go to my first mining expedition is a .5 zone and got blown out of the air in no time. My first death. I noticed a tiny little dot in the middle of my screen which turned out to be me in my pod. I went back to the station I was working out of and notice that I lost the ship I just bought and everything in it.
I thought insurance was for something further down the road, not this early in the game. I got emails explaining my death. They gave me back the ship I started the game with and 40K isk. So after 1 week of running around getting my ship together, it is lost and I am left totally disgusted. I am just using the 14 day trial, but **** like this just makes it difficult to continue. Not to sound like a whiner, but this is a bit rediculous.
I went back to where I got blown up and there were the pirates and a green container. Is that container full of the stuff I bought for my ship. I would imagine that the pirates took it all.

I assume these are NPC pirates ? They will not have taken your stuff and yes that is your stuff. 0.5 NPC rats are probably a little too hard to kill for you small ship at the moment, your trying to run before you can walk. You can't expect to get anywhere in EVE in a 14 day trial really.
Build up slowly in 0.8 and above, there are plenty of resonable ores around to make a little money, also do some level 1 agent missions to make some cash.

Aye. the security levels are there for a reason.
Since you didnt put on any defences you didnt expect the pirates to show up? Using drones for defence and Mining lasers might be the way you should start. either that or you should stick to 1.0 0.9 space.
14 days isnt really much to get you anywhere. instead of rushing to the highest ores you should consider taking it a wee bit more slow.. :-)
there is sooo much to do and explore after all...

Stay in 1.0 and .9 and mine and sell Scordite - this will net you the most isk the fastest and you won't have to worry about NPC's at all.

any frigate ship can solo upto 0.7 by using light or meduim drones(if u have the skill) the best setup is as many mining lasers on as u can fit, AND 1 small shield booster, then u should be able to mine upto 0.7 and the rat's aren't a problem

Mine in higher sec space until you are comfortable in dealing with NPC pirates.
Convo me in game and I'll sort you out with a new ship and equipment. Make sure you've learnt from your mistakes though :)

Thanks Jonkai, but I just replaced all that I lost, I have been saving for the next level up, I just have to mine a bit more. That is a nice offer though. Darm

No problem at all, I've sent you a little something. Use it to buy a couple of frigs and equip them for NPC's, then go to a belt in a 0.8 system and practice killing NPC's.
You should then be able to defend yourself a bit better in the future :)

Yes, good advice. There is no point staying in 1.0 or 0.9 systems. You will never learn to combat NPCs in the belts there. Get yourself into some 0.8 systems and have a go. You'll soon learn the way. Also, if (when!) it happens again, use your pod to check the cargo can left behind. You can see if any of your equipment that survived is worth going back for. NPCs dont shoot pods either

Edited by: Zster on 21/07/2004 17:12:36 I agree with all everyone has said. I want to add join a friendly player corp as being very important.
I'm still on my 14 day trial, soon to extend. The first 5 days were really rough. I tried to mine in .8 and above security, found scordite to be the best starter ore (pyroxes is heavier, thus you won't get as much though the selling price is higher). I tried getting help in newbie chat but everyone flooded with questions and answers were skewed around, I sifted trying to find my answer.
Then on my 6th day the M'8'S Ceo opened an individual chat with me, I thought "wow someone wants to talk to me!" Her name was Bon3s and I asked what her speel would be. She was very nice and said she liked my bio I wrote and asked if I needed help. She told me she was a CEO of a corporation that could help me. I joined that day and have been very happy for the last 4 days. All the members greet me in the corp chat, and many invite me to mine with them in there battleships or cruisers. They understand I am new and that I do the best I can to help. We sit in a roid belt and put our mined minerals into a jettisoned container. Then a hauler comes brings it to the home station and divides all the ore and minerals they have expertise in refining EQUALLY amongst all involved. I can honestly say my determination for the game has sky rocketed due to this help. Noone in the corp begs for you to do something, and I just made 1.5 million ISK in 1 day of mining for 3 hours =). For me that was a huge amount. For the last 5 days before I had made 300k ISK mining alone and 200k on missions. I keep in the back of my mind that I will one day return the favors of M'8'S by helping new members =0.
My advice, find a friendly corporation. Stick with it no matter what, the least you have to gain is knowledge from them =). --------------------------------------------------- (\_/) Is this bunny or Picachu? (O.o) Beware the bunny w/BIG sharp teeth (< >) Zster's kills |

darn right Zster.
Having a good corp is great. I recently joined Dragon's Rage and i've decided to keep playing Eve because of that. They're great guys and having fun really helps.
