Originally by: bigred monkey why all the fuss?? tbqh i think most of you are talking out of your proverbial smacktard mouths. ccp DO NOT HAVE TO award any prizes as they dont have to hold the toury anyway, most of you guys fight eachother for fun in game all the time. so now we get a even playing field were isk doesnt guarentee you victory, you win, you get the perfect smack weapons for your e-peens.
the guys in my alliance want to fight to pvp some of the best pilots in game....end of....thats it as far as they are concerned.
the prizes are a bonus and i dont really care what they are. all me and my guys want is a chance to pvp some great fighters and at the end be able to say gf, best of luck, to ingame friends and enemies.
if you want to throw billions of isk into fation b/ships for the tourny then do so, but every, and i do mean every set-up is beatable. so please stop throwing your toys out of the pram and saying 'i wont be rich if i win' and concentrate on winning in the first place. i believe this years tourny will be the best yet and its open to just about everyone to win. i say bring on the tourny and seing as we know its already over subscribe, announce the entrants now so we can start making definite plans
I think you are missing the point. Most of us are just providing feed back on the price. We like the Statue and Medal but think the PLEX reward is not good. If CCP didn't want feed back, then they should have lock the thread. I don't know about your experience but most company can't pay enough for passionate and honest response from their customers.
Also like to point out that just about everyone agree that with or without the price, people will compete. That doesn't mean CCP is not missing out on a great opportunate to generate alot of excitement about their game FOR FREE!!!!. Having a great price cost CCP pretty much NOTHING but gets the player base excited. Even the none PVPer would follow the follow the turnament just to see who wins it. The price we have now is a downer...
Example: A> Have you heard that they brought the Alliance Turnament back? B> Really! Whats the price this year? A> Lots of PLEX for the winner!! B> Whats a PLEX? A> Time cards. B> .....
Bad price takes away status of acheivment from the winning team.
Example: A> Did you hear that Goonfleet won the Alliance Turnament? B> Really? What did they win?! A> Nothing. B> Oh...

As it stands, someone from the corporation "The Priory" told me they did the math and if you manage to win the entire tourney, each member stands to profit 700 mil isk... In previous tournaments, that wouldn't cover one ship or even a single pimp module
In that case, this person is a crack-head.
Here's the math:
The winning team gets 60 30-day GTC's shared between all members of the team. If you field ALL 10 persons you can at any given time(Not all teams do this), EACH member gets 6 GTC's.
That's: 6 GTC * 300mill = 1800 mill.
300 mill is a quite low price for them, mind you. They can easily reach 350mill, adding another 300mill.
That's a large difference from your quoted 700mill.
The total value of the first place IS 18bill. Divide that by however many people is on your team. Hence that assuming that everybody fields 10 people is quite an assumption to make and is not likely to be true.
Mind you, 1,8bill is more than the average EVE-Player has.

We'll play for the simply fun of shooting people, but I admit its kind of disappointing to know that back when the tournament was more about how much ISK you had (gee, full pirate implants for the whole team and faction mods help any?), the prizes were amazing. BoB's tournament winning team walked off with what, 6 unique ships, each of which sells for the price of a Titan ?
As opposed to now, when the barrier to entry has really been removed and smaller alliances are perfectly able to compete on even footing and the prizes are.. eh.
18 Bil isn't terrible or anything, but its not amazing. Heck, I'd rather have a bunch of Guardian-Vexors.. unique items of coolness that can't otherwise be acquired, like the old stuff.
As for the person who said that most players have less than 1.8 Bil (and completely missing the fact that most alliances involve more people than just one small team), I would actually be surprised if the average tourney participant had less than 1.8B.

I do think that the prizes could use a slight boost. But I'm in it for the glory, and I don't really care if we take a loss in doing so.

Only if you don't think too hard about it.
Most of the guys who actually are the ones to step up and play for their alliance are people who have spent a lot of time mastering multiple aspects of the game. Somewhere along the way, you're going to figure out how to acquire a steady cashflow too.
That still doesn't change the fact that the cost to participate without disadvantage in the tournament is vastly lower now than it was in the past. So yes, even very small groups with low money can compete just fine. I wager such groups aren't the norm, but they're not fighting against people with 56% better equipment either, as they have in the past.

Winning team = Lots of dead ships along the way, has to pay for them out of their own pocket. End profit of 1.8 bill per person... More like 1 bill..
Basically next to nothing for the winning teams.
2nd place will probably struggle to break even, considering they will lose all of their ships in the final, and would of lost alot along the way....

The winning teams will most likely have very few losses along the way -- this tournament's rules basically guarantee this. Not including implants, it is VERY unlikely that teams will spend more than 8 bil on ships, fittings, etc. (this is assuming that each team assumes they will lose a good chunck of their ships, and are buying backups). You would have to lose everything you purchased in order to get ONLY a 1 bil profit for each pilot (10 bil profit overall). This of course is highly unlikely to impossible. It is much more likely that the winning team would lose less than 1/4th their total ships used over the course of their 7 fights, making for 1.6 bil per pilot profit (16 bil overall). Not sure about you, but I can use 1 bil isk - even better that it will be more like 1.6 bil. If you find that to be "next to nothing" then you have entirely too much isk, and should give me some. ________________________

to the kind of teams that are likely to win or reach the latter stages of these things, 1b per person is very likely to be nothing especially in return for all the time it takes training and planning to be successful

Try to tell that to the old BOB teams. I don't seem to recall they lost any ships up until last tourney.

Speaking as a member of a team who has / will again likely win/reach the latter stages, even 1 bil would be useful to my wallet. Generally speak though, in these tournaments, you only lose a bunch of ships once ... then you have no more losses due to being out of the tournament. It is very uncommon to take heavy losses and still move on. So in reality, the reward is more like 1.6 - 1.7 bil per person, if not more. As far as the training involved, in almost all instances the skills needed are also used in everyday pvp (it's not like I'm training mining, or capital construction). You are absolutely right about the amount of planning needed to be successful, but that is generally done by 1 - 3 people - who are all doing it for the fun and not for the isk. ________________________

Last time we (not bob i have changed alliances, before you all start flaming) came 2nd, and we made 50 bill, 1st place could of potentially made 100 bill, whcih does make 16 bill seem pretty insignificant.

No they won't the rules mean to exact opposite of this (No dual logistics uber tank)?
This time the risks are much higher, and the rewards much lower, i doubt there will be a match when the winning side doesn't lose atleast one ship

For me, and for KIA, this competition is about so much more thn the reward, being the winners, being known as the winners would be prize enough.
And on top of that, you get a permanent in game memorial to the achievement.
Awesome prizes imho.
No it's all about the isk. Always has been, always will be. Donn't tell me you wern't planning what you were gonna buy if you won, before the matches had even started last time... |

then you must rember the last tourny, now how ong did you last in your first fight??? against someone you said you were gonna defeat easily???
the best thing about tourny's is just the same as the fa cup......on any given day, even the minnows can cause an upset!
now lets se who has the balls to try something completley out of the box this time!!!

Huhh, reality check? This tournament will have the highest amount of ships blown off yet.. even winning teams i forsee will probably lose a lot of ships along the way unless they are extremely lucky.
Why? Because this time around we will have a gankfest instead of a tankfest, and where theres ganking ships, there are losses.. lots of em.
So yea if you think that banning logistic modules will allow teams score flawless wins like you saw the last time or the one before that, then think again. |

As for rewards:
Im all for unique stuff, but let's face it.. money makes the world go round.. its the universal grease for our cogs.
Sure the tournament will always work without a big money reward, but hell you will see a much more fierce competition if theres big riches to be won.
For those who think that adding big money rewards would upset the game balance.. Think again.. right now, even a titan would just be a drop in the sea of titans.. and trust me.. that sea is getting pretty big and grows bigger every day.
Do you think that adding a reward worth the crappy faction BS the few month old newbie throws away to a pirate in his lvl 4 moneyprint mission is really worth it for someone who has prolly been at this game for years? Is that reward enough for someone beating up the top teams (hopefully) of the top alliances from this game?
Nah.. seriously.. if you are in for the money, right now you are better off doing a few lvl4 missions.. you will have your first prize by the end of the first tournament weekend and you will not risk anything in the process. Not your ships, not your isk and definitely not your pride or ego.
Also.. game time as reward for maybe the most dedicated players the game has to offer? You got to be kidding me.
Alliance tournaments happen like once or twice a year, right? Now how bad would it hurt, if the winning team from a field of 64 teams would get more than a few hours worth of mission running as a reward?
What are you afraid of exactly with these rewards? Why is it, that as the entry bar is lowered, so is the reward? Afraid that people wouldnt want to play in the tournament if there would be decent rewards involved as well? |

i thikn in all honesty that the prizes this time round are ott Isk wise.
Making the winners insta MULTI Billionaires is a joke, and thk god Mindstar and the team had the sense to not do that again.

What he said ^^^
So KIA and VETO will accept only the monument and medal reward should they win?
Dunno about KIA, but Veto Corp certainly would if we to compete.
Fact of the matter is, we all play for different reasons. Some play purely to amass a fortune, some play to leave their mark on the game and it's environment.
I'd be perfectly happy with a sizeable standings boost, a monument and a medal.

What I am wondering is this, 64 alliances right... 500mil each... right thats 32bil. Reward comes out to what? 16-17 bil for top and then half that for 2nd and fraction to 3rd... My question is... does ccp get payed by isk to keep a fraction of the 500mil each per alliance?

As I suggested long ago:
Winners should be allowed to design a single faction ship.
1st place: T2 Cruiser 2nd place: T1 Cruiser, w/ 4 bonii as with Pirate Faction or T2 frigate/destroyer. 3rd place: T1 Frigate/destroyer, w/ 4 bonii as with Pirate Faction.
The new ship hull would be 'alliance' variant of the chosen hull/item. The new alliance would recieve 1 bpo of the vessel, and a faction of their choice recieving BPCs as LP awards, spawn drops, ect.
These vessels could be used as 'meta' items in the invention process for the chosen hull, or the result of invention.
This prize can earn the winning alliance considerable ISK over time, but no immediate 'instant win' monies/items that invariably sit languishing in hangars as the past awards do.
Alternately they should have the option to design unique module(s) or implant(s). |
