Greetings,
I've been searching around for a bit, and I might be blind, or dumb...but I can't seem to find any specific advise on a good way to setup a storage POS.
The plan is to simply use it as a storage platform during mining ops in highsec without a station in the system.
I'd like to be able to store ships there while it isn't in use.
I'm just thinking Corporate Hanger Arrays, and a Ship Maintenance Array, along with some defenses to online in case of a war-dec.
But since it will just be sitting there doing nothing during the times we aren't mining, I was also planning on putting it to small use as a Research POS as well.
So, now I'm thinking, Corp Hanger (more than one for storage), Ship Maint Array, and a few Mobile Labs.
I guess my main question about this is, with those 3 items being the main use of the POS, what would be the best tower to get (faction wise...). Also, how many weapons should i have on standby for a war dec? I'm thinking 2 webbers, 4 shield hardners (hopefully to deter people from wanting to start a war dec), but when it comes to the actual firepower...I'm a little at a loss...what's normally best for highsec POSs?
And for the defenses, would it be worth it to go for faction items there, or just get the standard stuff?

Well since it sound like you will be doing alot of mining. I find the type of tower to get is the one that has a local fuel that you can ice mine. I can tell you first hand experience that it is a pain to have a gallente pos and be out on the fringe of ammar space.
So look at a nearby ice belt and see what you get then get that kind of pos.

It worth also noting that if you are researching at a POS in a system without a station the BPO's need to be in the Lab.And could be losted if attacked.
As you are looking at a storage POS you need to consider the fuel as that is the critical factor (as its already been said), it also worth looking at the fuel on the market, if you can mine ore worth more the the ice in the same time, you might as well buy the fuel and keep the profit.

This really. Also use a small tower. As for Corporate Hangars squeeze these in (believe me, you will fill one up in no time with a couple of people/hulks mining).
Don't bother with turrets, missiles nothing on the POS. Corporate Hangars are only 9million a pop(?) and doing this will prevent people from wardeccing you since its simply not worth the time and manpower to destroy your POS, unless they are doing it for fun ofcourse.

The type of fuel isn't really that big of a concern for me, as I'll probably just get a fuel delivery service to bring my fuel out to me whenever I need some. I am aiming for one of the faction towers though (fuel savings are the main factor there).
But you do bring up a good point, I'll have to check around and see what's around where I'm planning on putting it...never bothered actually using our ice mining skills...suppose it couldn't hurt :D

Yeah, I'm still doing the research there, though at the moment for our first POS it's looking like we'll be buying the fuel from a delivery service. That might change once we get a few more setup if this one goes well.
As for the research, this POS will be mainly for ore storage while our freighter is away. If we actually do put research labs in it...they will be for small, inexpensive BPO research (modules and ammo mostly)...so I'm not that concerned about losing them if something bad did happen.
Though when we get a real research POS going, it'll be in a station system :D

didn't actually think about the fact that the POS modules wouldn't be worth anything really, makes sense though. Plus, I can always just take it down if we do end up getting wardeced (which I'm highly doubting anyway)

Research labs are 100m a piece, people will dec you just to get those if you got them in an undefended small POS

For a mining storage tower I would I would suggest just having a corp hanger array and if you don't have an orca on the mining site then toss on a maint arry too... but the fewer things the better. What I'm planning on doing is just the tower and hanger and that's it... something that can be tossed up for a mining op and then taken back down again. only drawback is you haft to have an alt at the pos to toss the ore into the hanger if the folks in that mining op aren't in the same corp. But no biggie... it's a simple work-around.

Might be worth mentioning that if your having the fuel delivered then the service you use might charge more if the ice type isnt found in that region, I'd still go with a tower that uses local fuel just in case.

Been there, done that, not worth doing in high sec. Running a POS is expensive, and your first week of mining will just be to pay for the fuel. Then once you fill up your POS with raw ore, you'll need to hump it all over to a system with a station to refine it, which is a giant pain in the rear.
Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Remember that if you're doing some bigass mining that corp hangar will fill up pretty fast. Get 2 of em up if you feel like staying there for a while, its worth it.
