Personally i find Hybrits vastly superior, they demolish cornflakes at any range with wreckers every 3 shots for omgwtfpwned damage.
Having said that they aren't so good with sugar puffs.
I have to say i prefer the Smurgle Blaster as that can even destroy Coco pops before they turn the milk brown.

blasters blasters blasters!!!
crummy range but great damage... and you can see the whites of their eyes in the pod window as the flames lick higher
long range guns are boring - might as well play Arcadians on the Acorn Electron - just shooting little +'s or []'s in the distance
~~~~)\~~~~~\o/~~~~
yeah but no but yeah but no but |
Bumping threads is not allowed
and no, its not 4 shots per second...
In case you need explanations for basic stuff you should also consider the help channel, you might get faster answers over there...
Newbie guide of How To Chose A Gun:
The two more importants things to consider: -Damage per second ratio: basically it's Damage multiplier (the higher the better) divided by rate of fire (the lower the better)
-Cap usage per second ratio: Cap per fire divided by rate of fire. The lower the cap usage is, the better. Capacitor gestion is the most vital thing to learn. With an empty cap, you can't fire with hybrids and lasers), you can't repair your armor or recharge your shield, you can't even flee far away. If your cap reach 0, you're almost sure to die.
Also important: Optimal range , falloff and tracking. For example, suppose that you use a 425mm railgun (48 km optimal, 24km falloff): at 48 km, you'll have 100% base chance to hit (modified after by tracking and sig radius of the target). At 72km (optimal+falloff), you'll have 50% base chance to hit. At 96 km (optimal+2*falloff), you have 0% chance to hit at all. Tracking is important because it directly affect your ability to hit moving targets.
Also to consider: fitting requirement, for obvious reasons. The more CPU/Grid you divert to your weapons, the less you have for others usefull modules.
Noob guide to pick weapons: - 4 "lesser" guns (i.e. 200mm railguns) is usually better than 3 of the "best" guns (i.e. 250mm railguns) For cruisers: - Minmatar ships: 650mm/720mm projectiles for range/Dual 425mm autos for close range - Gallente ships: 200mm/250mm railguns for range, electron/ion/neutron blasters for close range - Caldari ships: 200mm/250mm + heavy launchers for range, period. Pick another race for close range. - Amarr ships: Not quite sure, but use lasers if their cap usage is lower than before (should be), if not, hybrids.
