Edited by: Gael Itrus on 25/12/2008 10:04:06 The idea for this comes from the stand-off and laser guided weaponry that are in use today.
The ship itself would be essentially a flotilla fitted with a myriad of missile silos. These silos would fire a new bracket of guided warheads capable of entering warp.
The platform would lock onto the position of an enemy ship being engaged in the field via a new type of target painter, and deliver volley after volley of support fire. This would work similarly to how soldiers in the military paint heavy targets, and remote bombers fire laser-guided munitions which lock onto the signal. These missiles would be subject to the warp-delay, and so the damage would not be immediate in the engagement.
The ship would shield tank, having enough mid slots to sustain an intense but short duration bombardment, and would be incapable of fitting citadel, torpedo or cruise missiles. It would also need a limited range jump drive for rapid deployment, and would have no drone bay.

whats the point to warping missiles when if you enter warp or target enters warp the lock is broken and damage can not be inflicted to target.
they cant change this without breaking the game with huge amount of rewrite.
besides minmitar use missiles heavaly but no to the point they have any missile boats capable of doing much damage.
minmitar missile use is to increase thier dps for thier poor tracking guns. a miss =0 dps so a missile assures a hit this giving a near average dps.
but cool idea... all they need to do for minmitar to make them viable is 1 of 3 things: 1- increase gun tracking 2- increase ROF 3- decrease ROF of hybrids and lasers and raise thier damage modifier (best option to meet need for speed)

It wouldn't take a huge code change to store a ships ID in a variable, verify its state on the grid hasn't changed, then re-lock and engage it. A 5 line branching statement.

nice, from a stupid repost of a repost of a repost of an idea to a "It's just one line of code"-statement in under 5 posts.

Edited by: SpawnSupreme on 25/12/2008 12:41:17 i usualy vote yes to anything minmitar but you cant make this ship work without opening a new can of worms for all them caldari players...
they nerf caldari race so much they would beg thier missiles do the same thing pushing minmitar even further down on the hey lets build a new charictor hmm witch on??? oh hell no to minmitar, hehe
i so need for my specialty race to have one of the options champian stated above for that will make my specilized race ships stron enough other players may concider become 1 of the few, the proud, the MINMITAR!

You've yet to add anything to the thread Batolemaeus, other than your "it's a repost - therefore it's stupid" logic. Any particular reason this is a bad idea?
If the code is properly modularized target-relocking wouldn't require a signifant source change.
