It's been a about a year since I first subscribed to Eve, I have 12 Million skill points (not a lot compared to some people). But the fact is I am running out of useful skills to train? Every skill i need is either at level 4 or level 5. Things have got so bad, I have less than 6 days left before all my frigate skills are at level 5. After that I suppose I will start on my Cruiser Skills (already alll at lvl 4).
I know this is not a bad thing (higher level skills mean you take less time to train all the new skills which are to be released).
I just think it's about time that more skills became available. Broaden the skill tree a bit more. Bring in more specialised skills, so that we can take our characters in the direction we wish.
Anyone else feel the same?
Your point of view would be appreciated.

What about the rest of the playerbase who have say under 5 million skillpoints. You add a whole bunch of new skills and the new players or the medium term players are lost in despair.
I think there should be a good 6 to 8 months where people like you would only be training those skills that take 30-50 days. After that then trickle in new skills. This way the medium player base has a time to catch up but not quite be up to par. But close. And so its not so discouraging.

I see your point, which is a godd & valid one. However, like me and the many others who have been playing since day one we are not going to be specialised in any one area; will (or maybe all the people with more skill points) will be a master in all areas.
I don't really have a solution for this problem, maybe someone else can suggest something.
I suppose this problem is not a big issue withh ccp as Shiva is taking up most of the time, but after Shiva is deployed and most of the problems that come with it get sorted, this problem might become more of a valid issue.
However, when Shiva is deployed more skills, ships etc might become available thereby relieving said problem.
Keep your comments coming.

There is always something usefull to train. Most times it's only useful because it makes you able to use better items (tech 2). You say old chars are master in all areas? I doubt it, if you have your skills spread like that you are an allrounder but no master in anything. I have all my skillpoints in pvp skills, I can't use a factory slot or a miner II. And I can't fly all races and shiptypes either.

Other than that I have only ship skills to train. i.e. Spaceship Command / Rank 1 / SP: 256000 of 256000 level 5 Gallente Frigate / Rank 2 / SP: 512000 of 512000 level 5 Minmatar Frigate / Rank 2 / SP: 305244 of 512000 level 4 Caldari Frigate / Rank 2 / SP: 512000 of 512000 level 5 Amarr Frigate / Rank 2 / SP: 512000 of 512000 level 5 Gallente Cruiser / Rank 5 / SP: 226275 of 1280000 level 4 Minmatar Cruiser / Rank 5 / SP: 226275 of 1280000 level 4 Caldari Cruiser / Rank 5 / SP: 226275 of 1280000 level 4 Amarr Cruiser / Rank 5 / SP: 228351 of 1280000 level 4 Gallente Battleship / Rank 8 / SP: 64000 of 362039 level 3 Minmatar Battleship / Rank 8 / SP: 2000 of 11314 level 1 Caldari Battleship / Rank 8 / SP: 2000 of 11314 level 1 Amarr Battleship / Rank 8 / SP: 64000 of 362039 level 3 Gallente Industrial / Rank 4 / SP: 32000 of 181020 level 3 Minmatar Industrial / Rank 4 / SP: 5657 of 32000 level 2 Caldari Industrial / Rank 4 / SP: 5657 of 32000 level 2 Amarr Industrial / Rank 4 / SP: 181595 of 1024000 level 4 Interceptors / Rank 4 / SP: 321521 of 1024000 level 4

no covert ops?
Really, CCP goesaround saying that "players have to be specialized" when old players can fly perfectly just about everything, and the mining profession is 3/4 skills.
Where is that uber specialization we were promissed?

The Mining Profession? Have you looked at SCIENCE skills lately? Ever think about doing research missions so you can get into the BP Lottery?
It would take over 10 YEARS (yes I've done the math - hence the spreadsheet I developed) to max out every skill in eve... and you could spend the next 4 years not ever touching an INDUSTRY skill.
More skills... more skills... more skills... BAH!
If you can't find something to do with the 160+ skills we have already after a year - you're not looking at them properly.
Now before I get completely flamed..... YES I _do_ agree we need more spcialized skills... it will add diversity to the mix and give more flavor to the game... my intent isn't to knock down that concept. I'm just saying that with the skillbase we already have, that even after 1 year, you shouldn't be running out of stuff to do... you're just choosing not to do it.

if CCP is readint his post....
bring out a few skills that are stand alone ones.. create a new skill tree branch called specialised skills...... and place these 4 skills into it i.e a combat eff skill(does something minor to combat weapons) a hauler eff skill(increases hauling in indy type ships) a miner eff skill (increase mining laser speed and therefore speeds up ammounts) a defencive eff skill (increases somthing miner to armor/shield tanking)
you can only train 1 of these skills, if u train one of the skill's the other 3 will be unavilable to you if u have combat eff then u can kill faster but other people out there will be better miner's, haulers, and better at defence having mining eff makes u a uber miner, but with no bonuses to the combat side and therefor others can kill you easyer
each TYPE of current job that people in eve do can be done like this, this would be the best way to START specializing the skill's tree to encourage people to stop being either masters of all types
this post was funded by Quafe now available in minmatar red. try our new product. Quafe's caldari version "press missiles 4TW" limited sales offer before the next universal improvement |

Edited by: Loud Bob on 21/07/2004 15:35:17 Edited by: Loud Bob on 21/07/2004 15:34:48 I have:
Amarrian Starship Engineering / Rank 5 / SP: 226275 of 1280000 Social / Rank 1 / SP: 256000 of 256000 Negotiation / Rank 2 / SP: 113452 of 512000 Fast talk / Rank 4 / SP: 32000 of 181020 Connections / Rank 3 / SP: 277939 of 768000
Refining / Rank 1 / SP: 256000 of 256000 Mining / Rank 1 / SP: 256000 of 256000 Refinery Efficiency / Rank 3 / SP: 768000 of 768000 Astrogeology / Rank 3 / SP: 768000 of 768000
I don't make stuff anymore so that rules out production skills
All my gunnery & missle skills could be trained from level 4 to level 5 (but training time vs extra bonus seems a little OTT atm)
Same with drone skills.
The overall point i was trying to make is that, i have very little 'useful' skills left to train. and i only have:
Total skill points 12,162,173 so imagine how the people who have more points feel.
I lost interest in research after doing it from when it was available and still not been offered a BP (but i guess i'm just unlucky). Don't even know how many rp's i have, not checked in about a month.
Things even got that bad that I was just going out in my Interceptors (doing missions etc) just to see which could & could not be done. Lost 5 in total before i scrapped that idea.
Now it's just a case of logging on to change skills.
Now that Covert Ops is here I might get back into the game just to see what they are capable of.
I guess i'm just waiting for 'SHIVA' like everyone else.

Well, its been almost a year for me also, and i have 13,1 M skill points divided over 139 skills, and i have the feeling i'm just starting to learn. - I'd like to have all skills available - i'd like to have all skills to at least 4 - i'd like to have mor than a million points in gunnery - i'd like to be able to fly all the new ships which have come out - and if all that is finished, i'd like to fly a mark V iteron
In about a year i will have fullfilled these wishes. After that i can start specialising
but then, collecting stamps has always been popular in our family

I have 6M skillpoints and I fly an iteron V. My combat skills are specialized and have room for improvement. With that said, I don't play the game for PvP (which is the only reason a majority of players play for IMHO). I calculated the time it will take to 'MAX OUT' and run out of useful skills...a year. Not including SHIVA add ons. I just wanted to add another perspective on this subject. _________________

Just a small point, but why if you never intend on making anything would you want to train production skills?
Also, regarding research, why would you want to train any more than 5 skills in this area. Even with research management you would never do research in all fields.
I have my mining/refining skills maxed out, apart from all the seperate refining skills which will be trained to level 4 when and if i ever start mining again.
My social skills will be maxed out quite soon. My navigation skills after that (all sub skills at level 4 or 5 apart from jump drive skill which i don't have).
Which just leaves gunnery, missles (all sub skills at level 4 or 5 already) and ship skills.
Won't train corp skills as i will not be running my own corp in the near future.
Now it's time for everyone elses point of view again.
