I fly a Typhoon BS and I have about 11.1 million skill points, so I'm not that bad of a pilot. However, I have trouble beating a Destroyer spawn (type of NPC BS, 750k bounty).
How do you guys recommend loading out a Typhoon BS so that I can beat the BS and his fellow cruisers?
Thanks.

either load up on 1200s and stay as far away as you can, or tank yourself to hell and put some 800s on and dive right in. depends on what kind of balls you have.

I don't know how much this will help but if you review my Tempest loadout here you might have a little luck adjusting your Typhoon loadout.
My Tempest loadout is dynamite(with 6 Ogres for close range) and I can handle 2 750k's at once. Therefor I'd assume a Typhoon could at least handle one.
The key is dmg types as well, you MUST use the most efficient dmg type when fighting NPC BS solo. I really can't stress how important that is. Visit the EVE DB to check dmg types or figure it out yourself by launching missiles at the NPC to see which type hits hardest. NPC in my part of 0.0 have different immunities for shield and different for armor, and each BS is different.
Hope this helps ---------------------------------------- "Cry Exploit and let slip the Dogs of War" |

lol the ladies these days ...
But she`s right, i would fit to drive in and bomb away, means 4 800's pref. named versions and 4 siege with torps these specific Npc's dont like...

Do you guys find that one damage type, say EM, may take mig hits intially, but then it slows down? Like - for some - EM damage takes down the shields fast, but another type of damage is called for past that?

EM makes more damage to shields (0% resistance and prime dmg of the lasers). On armour, since it has 60% EM dmg resistance, the raw damage is cutted off by 60% -------------------

I do not have as many skill points as you however the setup I use for BS NPC is as follows:
High 2 x Siege Launcher with Torps. 2 x Heavy Launcher with Widow Makers 2 x 800mm repeating with phased plasma 1 x Anode Mega Neutron Blaster with Antimatter 1 x 650mm autocannon
Mid 1 x 100 MWD 2 x Cap Recharger II or 2 x Named Cap Rechargers 1 x Heavy Cap Injector with 800's
Low 1 x Kinetic Hardener 1 x Explosive Hardener 1 x Thermal Hardener 1 x Large Automated Carapace Repairer And cap recharging mods in the rest.
+4 Wasps + 4 x Ogres + 2 Beserker
This gives a great cap recharge time (+ the Heavy Injector if the battle continues for longer than expected) and therefore enables you to pretty much run the Large repairer for the whole length of the combat. I'm fairly new to BS NPC combat and have lost several BS in the last few weeks however this setup appears to work for both me and the people that recommended it to me. Hope it works for you

The Phoon will easily do enough damage to take out a 750k rat. What is your strategy and fitting? It would help us out.

A close range armor tank setup with drones should do the job. Or a long range setup with smartbombs could work too.

My setup is not finalized since I'm way out in 0.0 and it's hard to get the gear that I need. But right now I'm fighting with
HI: 2 X 1400, 2 X 1200, 3 heavy launchers, 1 siege launcher
MED: 1 shield amp, 1 XL shield boost, 1 EM Ward, 1 Tracking Computer
LOW: 3 Cap relay, 1 Ballistic Damage Mod, 1 Damage Mod, 2 Warp Stabilizers
That's as far as I can remember. I could try squeezing 4 X 1400s on there. But I think that since the Typhoon has 3500 drone space I should go for closer range combat and 4 siege launchers with torpedos.
So 4 X 800s makes sense. Should I shield tank or armor tank?
Thanks for the help so far!

Edited by: Mistress Zhantine on 22/07/2004 11:51:00 Ash, if i were you i'd consider sticking a small smartbomb on that setup... i know the rats you're fighting, i lost my phoon to a pair of destroyers the other day purely because i didnt have addequate defence against missiles... the torps they fire will knock you out of alignment and then you in all sorts of trouble.... if it's any help my setup was something like this: high: 4 x 1400 2 seige 1 heavy 1 rocket launcher (defenders)
mid: tracking mod senor booster mwd/ab cap recharger
low: gyro large armour rep 3 x hardeners rest diags or cap relays, cant remember
best thing to remember with the phoon is that it has a 10% bonus to range so you can keep em a loooong way away from you which is handy ;)

Yeah, I think long-range is better for the Typhoon. I'll probably go with 2 siege and 2 of the fastest launchers for defenders and see how that goes. Basically I need to dish out damage at a faster rate...I'll have to take a look into armor tanking vs. shield tanking. Thanks for the help.

Hi,
from eve-i, object explorer:
Gurista Destroyer

ARMOR Armor Em Damage Resistance60 % Armor Explosive Damage Resistance10 % Armor Kinetic Damage Resistance25 % Armor Thermal Damage Resistance25 % SHIELD shield Capacity4800 Shield Em Damage Resistance50 % Shield Explosive Damage Resistance67.5 % Shield Kinetic Damage Resistance45 % Shield Thermal Damage Resistance70 %
So, you need to tank vs. Kinetic damage and do Kinetic damage yourself, easy to take them on that way.

Depends... with BS's you want to get max out of their bonus per lvl and phoon has 10% bonus on optimal... use the drones to chew off the cruisers and frigs that get too close and keep the bigboys at arms length... you can still armour tank with a ranged setup

Zhantine, I agree. Keep the BS away from me, giving my defenders time to get his torpedos while my drones take apart the cruisers and frigates.
So what's the consensus? I should armor tank?

i got this setup lately and seems to work very nicely I fight against blood npc's and they don't do explosive damage.
high 4x600mm(with phased of emp) , 3xsiege launchers, and 1 rocket with defenders.
med web, mwd, cap recharger(18%) and i track comp II
low acomodation large rep, med armor rep II, gyro II, kinetic and thermal hardeners, 2 cap relays.
damage output very nice. if i am alone it gets a bit tricky here'ws the perfect scenario: 1 750k blood shadow saga (shoots cruise ml's) 2 priests 110k and 2 little ones that web/scramble. the frigates aproach u and u start shoting trops at the bs (bane do 460 to armor + explosive i think), web the closest frig and launch my drones 8 ogres and 4 guns. toast in seconds. all these while trying to close to the bs without mwd. once frigs are dead start targiting the cruisers. these will not come to range to web them so have to work with drones and guns u can take 1 sige to the cruiser to finish him of quickly. once the cruiser are dead( dont last long) u have to make your way to the bs. cap and armor should be good at this time and u can tank the damage of 1 bs no problem. activate the mwd(once or twice) and web the target and keep at 3.5k range. your guns hit all the time. very good damage about 50-80damage per 2.9 sec for gun with my skills. also tropedos should work their way to his structure.
u can use both siege and gunns on cruisers dependes how confident u are on guns but a tracking II and a gyro II along with the drones seem to help a lot.
ps rocket launchers are a lot better than asult(for defenders) even though they only carry 10 defenders.
if u are with friends it's a lot easier:
wait till the rats have targeted your friends and then warp at 15 k and close to the first bs and unleash hell. swich the rocket launcher for sige and if can't fit switch the large armor rep with a medium just in case. web the closest bs. nobody is shoting at u and u are dealing uber damage. your friend should focus more on tanking than offense. this setup 2 good ppl's can take preaty much a lot of stuff.
