My turn on the ore thievery.
Mine's just a success story, not a whine. Before I moved to the system I'm in now, I was doing some heavy mining in .9 and 1.0 Amarrian space to help pay off a debt. I watched in Local as some douchebag named TryThis was being addressed by another pilot in another belt. I'm at work so I don't have the log, but it went something like this:
Miner: Whoa, Trythis. Little too close for comfort, back off man. (a minute later) Miner: Dude, if you nab that can I'm going to bounty you. (seconds later) Miner: You're an *******, Trythis.
Well, naturally Trythis now fled the system with the booty, and I continued to mine. I talked to the miner and others in local and we'd established he was on a system rotation, just going belt to belt and filling his hold, one belt per system (since everyone was grabbing their junk and heading for base when he nabbed).
So, a bit later, my Local popped up and showed me that Trythis had reentered the system, and was harassing someone else. My can was at capacity for my hauler so I warped back to the station and swapped ships.
I jumped back in to see a Bestower bearing down on my can. His engines were just flaring, so he'd just left warp and was about 25km from my can. The race was on.
What he didn't know was that my It3 had afterburners equipped, so i set them on auto. I had warped direct to an asteroid (using a corp's secure can that was 20km out from the belt), so I was hung on another roid for a minute and he evened the distance. When I got free, both ships were racing for the cargo and I was praying he didn't have an afterburner too.
Watching two indies race for a can, you'd think, would be equivalent to watching two snails do the 100m dash. Still, it was exciting. I started talking to him in channel and goaded him, telling him I was going to beat him so he might as well give it up, or he's going to end up wasting his time in this system and have to wait another 15-30 minutes to come back. He didn't respond.
Well, I got close enough by about 10 seconds sooner than him, and yanked the contents of the can. He still headed for it, because it lagged and took a moment to pop.
Me: I TOLD you i'd beat you to it, *******. TryThis: Jet Can mining is an exploit. I won't report you if you give me the ore. Me: If can mining is an exploit, stealing from the exploit is technically an exploit. And if you haven't noticed, Local is now nearly empty, and i'm betting the rest are docked. Looks like you just wasted about half an hour. Trythis: Oh **** off
He then warped out.
The only thing worse than an ore thief is a bad ore thief with lousy justification.

It's always fun and exciting to torture the poor little ore thieves. Especially when it makes them lose their tempers.
I personally like to sometimes jet a can with a single unit of veldspar beside me while I'm mining. Give it a name like 'My can 12:22' and then when an ore thief comes up to the can laugh at him and say 'Made ya look!'. This is all while I warn other miners in the system of the ore thief's presense so they have time to clear out while he lumbers toward my single unit can.

He probably assumed I was a total n00b since he didn't see me in the Thorax. Probably why he tried to scare me with the E word.

heh, zeepo decided to visit a mining op for which I was hauling. I was docked when his itty5 showed up in the belt. It was about 5-6 of us lasering the roids to oblivion, and immetialy all of them headed onto zeepo like crazy. The bumps started. Zeepo's itty was bouncing all over the place. I undocked, and to zeepos amazement, I warped right on top of our "exploit can". He didn't see me do that and he kept on going for the can. I joined the bumpage along with a few ppl that decided to joined us after I announced the bump-fest on local... Well, his iteron was TOO fast, and after some bumping fun he managed to get to the can finding a whole... med cap battery
After thanking him for the fun in local, he warped away
Oh well, you can have some nice fun with them ore thieves...

There is something thrilling about an indy race isn't there?
But as fun as that is it is still no match for joy I get reading the back and forth on threads like these.
How bout miners agree using a jet can makes us lazy if ore thieves agree that stealing from jet cans makes them pathetic?
My favorite ore thief experience was last week when I was in 1.0 mining veldspar for my last bit of BS trit and some guy in a rookie ship kept coming back every couple of minute to load up, he must have thought he'd hit the mother load. He did stop eventually, I guess that 10,000 isk per trip finally earned him enough to retire.

lol
someone in a newb ship ore stealing. thats a hoot.
did ya mention he was taking someone else's ore... that it wasn't just spawning there or something? ya gotta wonder if he actually knew what he was doing...
lol, I wonder how many people might fall for the "its an exploit and I won't report you if..." BS. though in that case I might only take all but one unit of the ore, so he'd get to open it...
really is sad though, ore stealing in general I mean.

I found a fun way to wind up ore thieves. when you are in a belt that spawns rats destroy them and rename the can to a time. The ore thief moves into the belt and sees all the cans you can sit back and watch them try to work out which ones have goodies in that they want.
-----------------------------------------------------
Pain. Looks great on other people. Its what there for. |

I second that.
Anyone notice that the ore "theif" complainers are actually less mature than everyone else? They use constant profanity and insults because they can't figure it out. Sad really. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I don't get it. Since I've been away the main topic of conversation in the Crime and Punishment forum seems to have become Ore Thievery. I can't think of anything more boring to do, watch, participate in or be a victim of.
