Originally by: ReaperOfSly I don't think the EU would be so quick to unite personally. I can just see a situation where the UK goes into ultra-paranoid close-all-borders isolation mode. It's certainly not the sensible thing to do, but I can see it happening anyway.
With the likely collapse of JIT trade under the posited conditions, the UK's carrying capacity would be adjusted downwards by an order of magnitude even before domestic agriculture failed. The full effects of a Yellowstone eruption would reduce the population to barbarism. Whether the mutual assistance made possible through international trade would make a difference is unknowable. Everyone would be in the same mess, ultimately depopulated a hundredfold and rebuilding under 14th century conditions with partial assistance from legacy technologies where a sufficient level of social complexity was retained.

More like those survivors who knew practical agriculture would be engaging in collective bargaining with those survivors who had well-stocked hideouts and well-armed heavies, for their cut of whatever can be grown on their newly acquired land. Basically what happened when the Black Death generated a labour shortage - the landowners found they had to grant a raise and some time off to attract and retain workers lest they signed up with one who would and leave them to starve. Out of that came great progress and creativity, so it was not all bad. But I would not expect spaceship games.

Its been fortold in many different version of the Bibles...
Well just have to wait and see though
Yeah, I'm going to suspend judgement on that one. Death by low budget TV mini-series sounds much more likely to me.
