Do you get all of your information from Youtube?
2012 is just the end of the Mayan cycle, and there are no dates calculated after that. Just because it was too far off for them to bother with.
On the same principle those whack jobs who predict the end of the world every year must just be looking at annual calendars, see that there are no dates after 31st December and assume the world is ending. ------

There are no doomsday prediction from the Mayans on Dec 21, 2012. It is simply the end of their calendar which then resets to zero on that day. In fact they'd have likely seen it as a cause for celebration to start a new cycle.
The only thing that will happen on 12/21/12 is our sun will be aligned with our Galactic center at 11:11 (universal time). Last time that happened was about 26,000 years ago. Beyond being a mild curiosity that does not amount to anything really.

Before y'all panic, you should know that Yellowstone is extremely seismically active. 10 quakes in a day or whatever is pretty normal for that region. Now, if I were looking for something to panic about, I'd think about Eta Carinae - a star within 6,000 LY of earth, considered to be a likely candidate for a massive Gamma Ray Burst.
Cool thing is, it could have exploded 5,999 years ago, and we wouldn't know it because the light from the blast hasn't arrived here yet. There could be a screaming holocaust of humanity-frying gamma radiation barrelling toward us right now!

Overdue is a bad term. None of this works like "clockwork". It will happen when its ready to happen. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Probably would feel like getting stuffed into an oven on broil, at least for the few(horrendous) seconds that you live through it.
Apparently a gamma-ray burst could react with nitrogen in the atmosphere, make nitric oxide, and burn away the ozone layer.
If you did somehow survive that, you'd be covered in extremely painful burns all over your body. If you are hiding somewhere and escape that, you have to deal with the fact that food would be very hard to come by, oven-like temperatures, etc..

This thread about Yellowstone and the possible end of the world made me think about this book, The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
I have not read it, but now I think I will get myself a copy. Maybe this is the fate that awaits us.

I thought Eta Carinae was too far away to seriously fry humanity? It'd zap all our satellites in its path pretty well and maybe mess up the ozone layer (maybe) but not insta fry everyone.

Also, as far as I know, gamma ray bursts come from the poles of a star. We'd have to be astronomically unlucky to have it pointed at us when it goes off. ____________________

No no. The bits we can detect occurring in galaxies 12 billion light years away, those are the ones that come from the poles. They're like a gamma ray shotgun, but a GRB is by no means restricted in lethality to those narrow polar axes. That's why being anywhere within the stellar neighbourhood of a GRB is considered "bad" for creatures made of easily broiled meat. And we are firmly in the kill-radius of at least one candidate star - a star so murderous, so devoted to the radiation-slaughter of mankind, that it has actually gone supernova once before - and survived.
It waits.

Did you forget the fact that nibiru will be close enough to our planet to basically mess up everything it does correctly? about 95% of the facts on the 2012 prophecy are TRUE. Ive been studying this for quite sometime now and dont go after everything the net has. I will agree im skeptic of some of what it says (the nephelim (aliens that are huge and live on nibiru) will invade and engage all human species while they are weak due to the fact of the global happenings caused by nibiru).
however you are right. the world wont end on december 12, 2012. the events that the planet will go through will take months. from december to may is whats predicted. however all human life is not supposed to be lost.
google 2012 for a better description but remember google wont even give you HALF the facts.
and just a question....when the hell did this turn into an end of the world thread?
i also just want to state that im not a nut. it actually took me a long ass time to begin beliving any of this crap. but now the way i see it is..if it happens..it happens, and if we wake up to another normal day then ill kick myself for wasting time on the subject. -------------------- My Videos.

This has got to be a troll.
But for the record if Nibiru was actually out there headed towards earth we'd already see it. See it with an unaided eye not to mention using a telescope. It'd be one of the brightest objects in the night sky (after the moon of course). It'd currently be within the orbit of Jupiter. Add to that such an object would have a very noticeable gravitational impact on the planet orbits. They do not see that either.

troll indeed m8. however according to NASA Nibiru will be able to be seen with the naked eye around march of 2009. It will be a red dot in the sky and will grow larger as the years go on. And it is able to be seen now at certain points on the planet. -------------------- My Videos.

Spooky to be sure. On the one hand one wonders if this is a prelude to something a LOT worse. On the other hand having the area release energy in little squirts is a good thing. Like a pot of boiling water with the lid on. Let little bits of steam out and no problem. Keep it capped tightly and the pressure builds and builds till *foom*. Bad news.

This thing has gone off on a semi-regular basis throughout history. We're in one of it's longest stretches. But theoretically we're overdue for a few of the cataclysmic events of the past. All of us will probably make it without seeing any disaster of this level of significance. In a global context, we're a blip on the radar. Being 50, 600 or 50,000 years past due for a global disaster is like being 1, 12 or 1000 seconds late to work. If not, I live in Colorado so I may not be around to know I was wrong.
