I hate to break it to you, but given the collapse of civilization in New Eden and the subsequent dark ages, it's highly likely Earth is either wiped out, or (best case scenario) humanity has evolved to something like the Sleepers or Jovians -- completely incomprehensible to mere mortals. Even if the capsuleers found a way back... there wouldn't be anything waiting for them.

You have any idea, how much time and effort it would take, just to design a whole new range of ships
Besides, as the history of New Eden is kind of a mystery, it could just as easily allow for another race within New Eden
EVE/New Eden known history in short
A wormhole was found, leading to New Eden
Earthlings tried to stabilize it and called it the EVE gate
Many races went through the gate, to try and establish new home'
Among those races was the Alliance of Small Collaborating Countries, aka the ASCC ( consisting of Iceland, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands ) ( yes i actually made that one up )
The EVE gate collapses
People are stuck in New Eden, with no resources and no means of collecting resources at a large enough scale
The fragmented groups form new cultures on their new home planets
Many years later, FTL travel is reinvented and the game has started
One of the groups was bright enough to bring the right tools with them, so that they could maintain their technological advantage ( that group of course is the ASCC, which we later get to call the Jovians )
Now, if this is what we know, there could just as easily be another group out there, that has either not invented FTL travel yet, or just has not been found before Adding such a new faction to the game, would allow for New Eden itself to grow, simply by adding the regions controlled by this faction, to the already know regions This way, CCP would squad 2 or more flies in one hit 1) Add a new faction with shiny new ships, that don't have a huge technological advantage over the others
2) Add new space that can be claimed by new alliances
3) Add more space to roam around in, to relieve stress from other systems ( this could all run on a new server in addition to the ones CCP already has )
4) feed the forum warriors with new idea's for even more factions to be added to the game in the same manner. Yes i am dutch, no i don't do drugs. |

If you took the time to read any of the back story to Eve Online you will notice that even the Jovians were scared of what the Terran technology could do.
Have you read The Empyrean Age? A very good read. but in that book the Amarr found a weapon of Terran design which when fitted to a Abbadon, that could wipe out entire fleets and Titans in one hit. The weapon basicaly turned the targeted ships shields into bombs that detonated inwards and the energy then cascaded to the other ships near by and kept leaping about till all the enemy ships were dead.
There was a vid sequence showing this weapon in action as well. Skip to 1:34 for see it in use. [url=http://youtu.be/PKdTJjDnYzE]http://youtu.be/PKdTJjDnYzE[/url
It also left the pilot unconsciouse due to a huge neural feedback for a few minutes. Extended use and it could be permament damage.

I would support this if and only if CCP made it a player activated event.
CCP should start by seeding ancient text's and parts of blue prints in hacking sites so players need to solve a puzzle first. Make these items extremely rare, hard to find and set it up so it takes players scanning the EVE gate, doing exploration, fighting sleepers, sansha and all the other factions to piece together the key to opening the EVE gate. These ancient texts and blue prints should be in such short run and there should be a finite number in the EVE universe. If they get destroyed there are less of the items and less of a chance that players are able to open the gate.
On top of that I would also suggest making it so you are required to have a specific module fitted to your ship to pass through the EVE gate otherwise the energy waves would tear the ship apart. Again have long lost tech spread all over new eden that needs to be found before people can make this module. This would have to involve reverse engineering and possibly some bad modules that don't work right. Have it so when you are trying to create this module there could be 4-5 variations that are possibly from reverse engineering. Only 1 of these different variations will work per racial ship, there should be no indication on which works on what race so you require a test pilot to use them.
If and once the EVE gate is open there should be Terran tech ships that randomly come through the gate. These Terran's should be more advanced then sleepers and sansha and should basically war through new eden. 0.0, Low and High sec. Shooting anything and everything causing mass destruction. Create a consequence for opening this gate which should have stayed closed. Personally I would suggest that they roam in groups of 8-20 battle ships and each battle ship of theirs is about as powerful as 3-6 of our battleships. I would also make the salvage and loot from these ships to advanced for our ships to use. Reverse engineering could possibly learn some new stuff from them possibly making tech 3 modules. But there should be major drawbacks to using them. If you could possibly even use them.
The final step would be if you do go through the eve gate and if you get podded on the other side of the EVE gate your char is instantly bio-massed. There are no clone relays there so there is no way for your clone to get back to a clone vat. This could be circumvented by bringing a portable clone vat in one of the larger ships.
If CCP were to do a EvE gate event take some ques from Blizz and their opening of AQ event back in vanilla.

Good point, sadly though, whenever there's war, there's always someone winning it.

Maybe the entire EVE gate thing was a trick, in order to exile the most violent and unstable of Earthlings.
Perhaps since sending us all through the gate and closing it behind us, Earth went on to live in peace for centuries. |

I was always under the impression that the EVE Gate - the wormhole - simply jumped them a great distance across the Universe, way far away from the Milky Way Galaxy.
These are things I had not considered, but do any of those ideas hold weight with the lore? I haven't read any of the novels yet.

Don't be silly you all, the EVEgate is already open, here: EVEgate
On a more serious note...
To reopen the way to earth in game is nothing i think i'm interested in experiencing in the foreseeable future. It would turn into a massive project and i'm more interesting in CCP putting resources into already existing features like the UI and V3.
Can't argue against that it would be cool though. But please think of the children lore! |

wrong. Sleepers are Jovians.

Anyhow, if there's a weapon, that kills enemies by imploding their shield, I'd say turn your shields off for the win :D Yes i am dutch, no i don't do drugs. |

Also, it's entirely possible that New Eden is in the Milky Way. the lore never explicitly states that humanity explored all of the galaxy. only that the gates *could take them no further*
ie star cluster isn't close enough to other star clusters. New Eden would be a ways away from Earth Cluster, but relatively speaking we have no way of knowing how far away they are. |

Have you seen the people of Earth? You don't want to go back. It's for the greater good of new eden. Nothing good comes from those people, except a serious spaceship game from antiquity. -á |

No.
By the lore, Eve was set back a thousand year with the gate to earth closed. Therefore Earth is actually one thousand years ahead of Eve in terms of technology. They will probably be able to make the Jove look like noobs.

Not really, even the Jovians have taken a few steps back. Their civilization has collapsed twice, both times being rebuilt smaller, and less powerful. And it truly looks as if they have collapsed again, or will shortly.
If the Terrans survived to this day they would have a huge technological advantage over us. Keep in mind that scientific advancement is exponential, and not linear. The more advanced you are, the more advanced tools you have at your disposal, to speed up your advancement. We are ~15000 years behind, and if they kept advancing based on their tech at the time (which is greater then eve tech now) they would be so far beyond us we couldn't even comprehend their technology. |

This . The only Terran Weapon we got to see was DAMAGED . And even in a very bad state , it wiped out the fleet in mere seconds .
You don't want to see the Terran . They would obliterate us . |

I think opening a way back to terra will be a mighty good choice. Now who wouldn't mind a rare terran bed slave or chef-slave or some other type of very rare slaves. Because I'm quite sure the Terrans will have bombed them selves to stone age all over the Milky Way many times over and thus they will be very rare. |

The jove are more than a thousand years ahead of the rest of new eden.. in eve lore 1 thousand years is a blink of an eye so earth could be on the same tech level. |
