I would be willing to pay a higher subscription fee, or even double for the ability to have a skill queue. Or even pay someone their subscription if it werenÆt against the EULA to share accounts and no one can be really be trusted to not pod you 1000 times without upgrading clone until you lost all skills.

The people who would pay the extra price would have the abilty to queue, those who don't would not. Higher price for better service.

CCP News article.
The gaming industry may indeed be "recession proof," but that doesn't mean that certain companies won't still feel the pinch on occasion. Witness CCP, the creators of EVE Online and victim of Iceland's currency crash. While analyzing the collapse of the Icelandic krona, the Guardian took the time to single out CCP, pointing out that restrictions on access to foreign currency is making life difficult for the developer. According EVE's virtual economy supervisor Eyjolfur Gudmundsson, they may even have to leave the country.
"The present currency restrictions are putting us in a straitjacket. We are in talks with the government, but if we can't let capital in, we might be compelled to leave Iceland, even though this would be against our wishes," Gudmundsson said.
It's a possibility, but as the Guardian points out, at least CCP is still making money. As they point out, everything from the auto industry to the newspaper industry has been brought to the bring of collapse by the failure of the nation's currency. It may not spell the end of the successful EVE universe anytime soon, but you can bet every player in the thousands of star systems will be keeping an eye on events as they unfold.
Yes, CCP is still a business whether you like it or not. An idea to generate more revenue always needs to be in the forefront of any business in order to survive.

You mean like the idea not to **** off its customers by putting an even larger emphasis on meta-gaming?

The power of Two is a perfect example of meta-gaming promoting, yet they push that every 6 months. Where there is demand there will always be a market. maybe you won't do it, but I bet alot of people will, and it's those people who will benifit from it.

Okay, given that CCP is an economic crisis (as we all are right now), lets help them out by going over to the system Blizzard uses and make everyone pay extra for all new content
How long before most Eve players start quitting because it either costs too much to keep playing or those with loads of cash to spare always get an advantage in the game. Having GTC for isk is enough of a limit to cash giving in-game benefits.
A better idea: If you want to pay extra to have a training queue, pay a friend to log in and change skills for you based on what you tell them train next.

I don't have a problem with skill queues. I think it would be simple - make it a "learning skill". That is, you have to SPEND TIME TRAINING IT... in order to SAVE TIME TRAINING later.
Seems like a simple enough solution. Each level of the skill allows more flexibility and depth to the queue. And don't let it be extremely easy to max out. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

No, let's not even think about "tiered" subscriptions. Paying for a skill queue quickly turns into paying for "necessities," and paying for expansions.
Imagine when "wormholes" are introduced in the next expansion, when you try to warp to one you are asked to upgrade your account. Imagine if T3 required a "premium" account fee to use. It's a slippery slope, which I've seen other MMO's slide down before. Let's not even dream of it being in EVE.
Besides, remember how CCP tried to charge for "EVE voice," and how that went down like a fart in church?
Learn to time your skills. It's not too difficult. I thought everyone had a "dump skill" that they trained so their currently trained skill didn't finish at 3am...

Like that paying for Eve voice or EVE TV worked out pretty well?
Skill queue will not enforce people to play when they don't want to. Or stop toon farming. Paying for extra privileges won't be stopped anyway with GTC trade.
Besides CCP likes to keep skilling part of the boring grind Eve can be. |

Edited by: Rondo Gunn on 29/12/2008 23:24:59 I would support a queue but only one that allows you to set one skill to train after your current skill is finished. Sorta a back up for when patch day goes awry. Not that it ever does. Nope. Every patch and expansion = Perfect Deployment. Not so much as snag. Nope. Never.
Oh and no I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Queue or dual training (at reduced speed) I would support, but not if it involves money. Should be per default (at least queueing for them long/wikid downtimes).

I have never understood really why you want skill queue. Is it really that hard to manage your skill? Just use some math that you learn when you are 6 year old and you'll do fine. |
