Automation is what got the EVE economy in the toilet in the first place. You are a bad man, and should be ashamed of yourself, for even contemplating such drivel.

I do however have an idea ( which i hope never gets incorporated in the game ).
Being able to eject from a ship, while it keeps on mining, so you can get into another ship to go hauling and have a 3rd ship ready to fight rats if needed.
Which is basically the same as having 1 main and 2 alts, but now all ships are used by one char.
A better way to do this would be slave circuitry. Sit in, say, an Orca, running a Slave Control module. That module would lock your Orca (and all modules but the slave control module) in place/activation mode, but give you control of whatever second ship you've linked it to via a Slave Circuit. This could be a hauler, or a miner, or even a combat vessel. Multiple controllers could be fitted, but only linked to one ship each.
This would also open up some interesting stuff in PVP.
They could even make a special ship class designed to take advantage of it. Of course, operating ships like this would need to have some sort of drawback. |

Just to clarify a few points....
I don't want bots in the game - I do want it more interesting - that said, coding the changes might (and we all know I'm right here) break other parts of the game.
I personally was referring to ice mining which is the most boring part of mining and wondered how to fix it - which would lead to increasing the automation because I don't want the game broken ...more than it is ....
Shame on you lot for thinking otherwise. I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking |

Shame on you lot for thinking otherwise. Ms. Shame can always get on top of me if she is nice.
But game breaking stuff is not going to fly. Ever. A little tiny adjustment can break the game already. It is not going to survive game breaking changes. You have no idea what millions of curious and naughty players can do to a game (=> "massrape").
A good game, like EVE is, needs a balance of all thingies. It needs quick'n'fun stuff and a bit of dull'n'boring. Mining is cool when you want to chill with friends. EVE is pretty rich in variety so do not try to improve everything just after you have learned about it. Get to see the bigger picture first.
Just stop mining when you get bored. Do something else. |

Not really fond of the idea, however I will point out that there is the potential to have a Capital Mining Platform. One that is the equivalent to a Carrier and utilizes mining pods (whatever you want to call them) instead of fighters.
That's about as close to automation as I'd like to see. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.

Closest idea to automated mining that I can come up with that MIGHT be tolerated would be a system where a ship can tractor/tow an asteroid to a POS and hold it there while a Mining Array tore it apart. It would be a waste of time in a high-sec system, but might make mining operations in low sec more viable while making POS fights more interesting.
Otherwise they need to make mining more interesting, not more automated. I don't always finish my commentary, but when I do |

That's about as close to automation as I'd like to see. Fighter-miners would be lnteresting. Normal fighters don't autoaggro, so you would still have to press F or something.

I think people are misinterpreting what the OP means by "automated". Automated could be a wide number of possibilities.
It could be automatic, as many people are assuming, but if mining could be "automated" in a way similar to Planetary Interaction, while also making it completely optional, then you could be onto something.
This was how Star Wars Galaxies curbed potential boredom when it came to harvesting materials. Players had the option - and more rewarding method - of manually mining/harvesting themselves, but they could also make use of automated extractors as well. It wasn't a simple matter of setting it and forgetting it either. Materials would cycle, the extractor needed power, and it costed money to run.
EVE could adopt a similar system quite easily. The framework is already available to us.
Again, automated doesn't have to mean "sit back and collect ore". If mining were to receive any changes though, it should be optional to allow players the choice of how to acquire the minerals. |

Bridge the gap between bots and the rest of us.
Only a very small change to automation would make miners happier. Dunno what but it's an interesting proposal. Lets face it - we're getting starved of minerals right now and it's only going to get worse. |

Hroya wrote:Super idea ! And to expand on it, also make pvp automated aswell .. oh and add automated market too. Wait ! How about automating every single playstyle to make eve soooo much easier for everyone ?
You are a heroe among mortals. A statue should be placed in Jita for you so everyone could assemble their automated ships there and worship it for all eternity via gunshot.
All very very good ideas! But since we most likely wont get perma autopilot to play the game for us, how bout they just make EVE a themepark! Sandbox is WAY over rated. I mean who doesnt want all there decisions made for them???
CCP at the very least make space flight on rails like that other space themed MMO (mini multiplayer online) being able to turn in every direction is just too hard!
EDIT: On topic: So in other words OP you want CCP to make botting legal... **** YOU I recall one night in a nightclub called the matrix, there I was... Mother of god there I am! Holy f**k. |
