I was wondering if implementing a race specific bonus to a ship you fly within your empire is doable. For instance:
Gallente flying a Hyperion would get X bonus(es) to features on that ship over any other race flying a Hyperion. I think that would give a better incentive for flying ships within your empire.
The downside is there are many out there that fly every empire's ships and they'd only get bonuses for their own. Then again, it just might allow for a more interesting fight.
Amarr gets bonus to Cap use on BS for Energy turrets Minmatar gets bonus to sig radius/velocity/projectile ROF Gallente gets bonus to armor resistances/HP/Hybrid DMG Caldari gets bonus to shield resistances/HP/recharge time

this is an incredibly terrible idea. You should be ashamed of yourself. __________________________________________________ I was Amarr before they were the FOTM and I'll be Amarr after it! I'm also training Minmatar Capitals! And I eat Lions! |

This could quite easily lead on to a discussion regarding "cover" environments in space.
While it would be nice to have such benefits applied to flaying that Factions ship in that Factions space, the mechanics behind it would lead to, how does it happen? why does it happen? and more importantly, while you yourself benefit from it, how does the enemy subvert it?
It is a nice idea and the environmental effects was originally sparked by Oveur, it would be nice to see something along these line implemented.
However, I do not like the idea that a ships tanking abilities should be improved, even still a minor % gain to Armor resistance/HP can push it well in that ships favour to a near unbreakable tank, there would need to be some downside to it. -

I agree with some downsides. For instance, bigger sig radius for the Caldari or slower speed for the Amarr. Something to give it some balance but make that race better in their own empire's ship.
For instance, Americans know how to drive a Ford F-150 better than some guy in Italy who's never even seen an F-150.
Shouldn't this be true of EVE ships?

Special boni make no sense if all actors are of the same species.
And you are better with the ships from your Empire. You have better starting skills for them and for the things they need. If you keep skilling that way, you will always be better in your native vessels.
Racial boni are racist and would only make sense if they are applied as a method to include racism. If Caldari would get a tax discount at Caldari stations, that would be a credible racial bonus. Some weird genetic superiority when using Caldari ships makes no sense at all.

But think about it like this, We spend days/weeks/months training to fly ships. It is the training that quantifies our knowledge of the ship, So why should race effect it.
IE if you spent 5 months training to drive an f-150, as did the italian dude, there would be no difference. (in a perfect world)
In better terms, I'm sure a Profesional race car driver wouldnt have any trouble switching from one type to another type of car. Sure theres the personal aspects of how it feels, But then again, some people like to fly ships that others dont.
More so I think the proposal kills a bit of the sandbox nature of EVE. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |
