Wow. And yet no comment about premium whatsoever on Eve-Online itself. Or any followup to "the blog post" for many months now. Until now this is the first comment from CCP in any way whatsoever outside of a brief reference at Fanfest. The only comment was in an email to Transgaming customers from Transgaming themselves a month ago.
Way to communicate, CCP!
Anyway, at least this is giving me hope for seeing a client by the March expansion. W00t. -- What's your EVE New Year's Resolution for 2009? |

Edited by: Verite Rendition on 31/12/2008 07:00:08 I would keep that hope very tightly contained, in an Audit Log Secure Container with a password that you don't know. Hope has gotten us jack over the last year. The fact that CCP can't communicate this information with us directly tells me more than a press event ever will. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Lighten up you bloody naysayers.
This is an Expo... they are taking a risk showing this off to a large pile of people.
Give it a chance... hope or no hope.. its certainly progress is it not?

I agree. These types of announcements are always made at large events to attract media attention and new customers. In this case, more Mac users. If they announce it before, then they will have nothing to announce at the show - which they are paying large amounts of money to attend.
Also having worked in this industry, the wording of these press releases is often telling. They deliberately chose to use the word "introduce" as opposed to "preview" or "sneak peak", or some other term. Anyways, I guess we will find out in a week or so.
In the meantime let the rampant speculation continue...

I'll be first to admit that CCP isn't so "forthcoming".
But they probially are doing that intentionally.
Keep in mind this is the LAST Macworld expo ever..... that means this is a bit of a gamble for CCP.
They could be keeping it hush hush... who knows.
We need to give support and be patient. Otherwise we are just a bunch of trolls griping for our premium graphics : O )

Except here's what happens: CCP shows off EVE at Macworld, running fast, looking good, and not crashing. Then people come here to play the game, and get a god-awful client that barely runs. CCP shouldn't be showing off something they don't actually have, it's falsely advertising what the game is capable of. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Quote: "...god-awful client that barely runs..."
This is a way I could describe the current state of the client. On the other hand, I am no Leopard expert. It is conceivable that EVE ran seamlessly for 10 months or more because the former clients did not trip over bugs in my own system.
For example, Spotlight never seemed to be working optimally. I could find "Logs" by pawing through the folders: ~/Library/Logs. But Spotlight could never find that folder and still can't. Having looked at "Get info" for ~ folder and Library folder, it says I have "Custom Access", so it appears that a lack of my permissions is not causing Spotlight to miss them. But I really don't know the definition of "Custom Access". (I re-indexed Spotlight yesterday and I have searched diligently for the meaning of "Custom Access")
The latest patch seems to have solved the disappearing mousepointer syndrome, or at least slowed it down, but now the program is eating my expensive modules. I am virtually locked out of EVE.

It's the last macworld where Jobs and his gold nuggets attend.
I really do hope that CCP nails it, because if they go all "yamma yamma yaaammaaaa! Teh is teh best!" and it falls down like the recent expansions (pretty all-out-fubar on macs) and after 3-5 patches to fix those it's still "betaish". There will be hell to pay from marketing and investors....
Basically if they want good MAC publicity...they can't afford to fubar this. Not now when EVERY SINGLE MAJOR MAC COMMUNITY is looking (aka, Apple's last time in macworld...).

Yes, but without Apple backing it, its not going to be very big/will like cease-to-exist anymore...
And in regards to them showing off the Eve Client at Mac World, Dev Server FTW?

Well at least CCP Lingorm isn't here (in this forum) anymore, giving us clouds of vaporware with "I is writing it now" humbug ('it' being the now epic never released dev blog, must be still in tech department )
Maybe things do get better after MW. Though I find it difficult, as a paying alpha tester not getting any information on the progress of our current crappy client.

As far as I can tell it looks like the Conference starts today - but the Expo portion starts tomorrow. Only a few product announcements today - so I suspect if anything is announced it will be tomorrow.

I'm simply not interested in the most recent round of MBPs. If you take into account all of the features and differences from the last generation of MBPs, it is at best frequently a stale-mate. Not to mention, I have zero interest in owning a macbook with those terrible new keyboards and a glossy screen. A GLOSSY SCREEN?! WTF?! (I haven't checked out the new 17", but I'm assuming it is also a glossy).
I'm going to wait until the next generation and hope it is much improved over this newest "look a new case!" generation Besides, I don't do enough work on the laptop, so I'm quite mappy with my Mac Pro desktop that has dual 8800s, Dual quad cores and (currently, because I've taken out half the ram for another system) 16gb of ram.

Each to their own of course.
Actually the new keyboards are very nice in actual use. And the glossy screen is not an issue either - lets face it millions of people use them everyday and if they really were unusable no one would be buying them - windows or mac. However you can still get matte on the new 17".
But hey - you sound like you have a sh*t hot machine so unless you actually need a portable of some kind I'd be sticking with that too

Actually Glossy screens being fubar in professional use is a myth, or just the talk of an un-professional individual. If you have reflections and light changes on a glossy screen, you will ALSO have them on a matte one. You just can't see it so clearly. Basically this means you have the same problem with the same outcome.
A good working area for a glossy is also a good working area for a matte one. This means that if you can't see anything on a glossy one, the stuff will be all wrong on a matte one too.
Of course who in their right mind would use a laptop screen for professional use..., but it's not the fault of the gloss. Stop whining. |

Never quite sure what "professional" means in these contexts. I am the CTO of a company - still just on the cusp of start up stage so still developing, project managing , sys adming, dealing with customers etc.
I use a 17" MBP (and trying to think of a reason why I need the new one - 8 GB sounds the most likely) - the big screen - and the fact I can drive a second big screen when I am at my desk make it ideal.
If by professional you mean 'media' then for video I would be tempted to agree with you. For Music less so - over the last few years I have moved from a full on studio (16 channel analog desk, hard disk recorder, synths etc.) to doing it all on my laptop because it is just less hassle, more compact and all works well (and I don't have to spend 100's on wires either)

guys, it's kinda funny, but don't lose this tread ^^
it's not a "New MBP 17" discussion" thread. This is CCP@Macworld And Premium graphics for Mac. so, even if we are in the Mac forum, we're going to make this thread being closed. (But i agree with Qordel)
So WHERE-IS-SHR..EVE ? i assuming EvePremium4Mac is a pre-Alpha and doesn't work very well ^^ so CCP wouldn't give us a MessyBuggyWindowsLike EVE for Mac... or ?

Ok, let's get back on topic.
I only though CCP did these PR fiascos with the playerbase, but seems like they are doing them in public now too. Great. What this time? Transgaming, Apple? Coders passed out and froze stuck? Some unseen problems ( I always love that one)?

Actually there's a good insightful question (if this was Slashdot, you'd get +5 Insightful). Just how awful does the EVE client have to be before CCP takes pity on us and doesn't release it?
