Ladies and Gents!
We are proud to announce that we have started the video databse on our new website going from http://www.evemissions.com to www.evemissions.co.uk
Here is our test video Click for Test video and we have 50 videos ready to upload.
The videos we have ready for upload range from level 3's to level 5's. We want to make the database so that even the newest player can see when a new spawn enters the mission so they dont get caught out. I imagine there might be mixed emotions about this but we will be unique to the eve market for providing help.
As such we have no database intergrated but the DB is almost complete for launch so data can be migrated so it will have a similar feel to eveinfo. We are not trying to make a copy of eveinfo but as its a dieing breed with lack of support or info being input we feel we would like to take a place next to it and become one of the best sources of info for EVE.
So please let me know what you think of the test video and it is in MKV format and we will be releasing a WM9 version which will be larger in file size for those who dont have the MKV codec.

There's nothing to see on the website, and the test video is far to low-quality to see anything useful. I think mission guides that associate a write-up with screenshots of the mission space work much better (like the ones on eve-info and eve-survival). Write-ups also allow you to list hints and guides and whatnot, whereas the video is just a video. Don't like it - sorry.

it is a neat idea, lots of work to do it in a good way.
go for if you like
but video quality needs to be very good so you can read text/names of rats etc etc.
some speaking sound on videos is very good if you want.
above links to video is very crappy quality.
eve-files dont allow you to dl it, i donno why.

Ah ok i see the problem that evefiles wont allow users to download the videos!
The video is seemless quality and at 20mb in size so its a 2 min download.
I will find a new video host as EVEFiles seems to want to force streaming... 
Also to note that the website will contain more than just videos on the missions. They will have guides and each mission video will also have a voice over guide and freeze points at the triggers.
As i said this is only the test/beta video.
Sorry for all those who viewed the files i wasnt aware that eve files forced the streaming on .MKV files!

Another suggestion on the videos is to run them in tactical mode so you can see the location of the NPC rats relative to the player's ship. There's really no need to see the player's ship, and it's MUCH more informative to see the entire field. We all know what the ships looks like =). I run my missions in tactical display mode zoomed out to see the 100-km circles, and I've never gone back to anything else since I started.
Can't wait to see the hi-res videos with the associated guides.

My honest opinion about the guide videos is that they are completely rubbish. They have too low quality and WAY too high speed for you to make any kind of sense of what's going on. That you dualbox in the mission doesn't help at all.
Run the missions from a solo point of view, include spawn numbers, types and triggers in text and slow down the speed. Include voiceover or at least some background music. At the moment the videos are blurry, too speedy and really really dull.
If you really want to do this, do it properly. You need to add arrows, pointers and text displaying initial spawn locations, numbers and types, clearly labelling triggers and tell what will come in the next wave when the trigger is used.
So far you are miles behind the textual guides.
(EDIT: I know you mentioned some of these things, but DO implement them before showcasing your videos in half-finished state)
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |

Ancy cheers for the comments and this is the reason why the video is launched as a test vid with no trigger spawn pause moments.
It was a test on quality of the video and if you save the video and NOT watch it on the FLV player that EVE info has you will see it is seemless quality or damn close.
But cheers for the comments. This evening i will have the final version

I did download the video and watched it in full screen on my 1680x1050 res, so I didn't stream it. My complaint however doesn't touch the actual graphical quality as much as the content. However, they wouldn't hurt if they were a bit better quality so you could make out rat names in the overview. Helps a lot. |

Sorry to kidnap your thread slightly Dwayne. I liked your old site and hope your new one goes from strength to strength :)
I was wondering, have you or anyone in your group had experience with the Minmatar lvl5 mission, "Preaching to the Masses"? I had made a thread about it previously looking for help, but I seem to have drawn a blank!

1024x768 with voice commentary would be awesome. (game played at aforementioned resolution also, so you can see everything clearly.) |
