Since u have no firewall u could have all manner of nasties going on. Blaster, adware and other such stuff hogging resources and messing with yer connection.
One of the main reasons a modem will disconnect if its an internal one is because CPU hogs like Eve wont let the CPU give enough attention to the modem so it disconnects. Try getting adaware look for stuff that shouldnt be there and for goodness sake get yourself a firewall.
and welcome to Eve btw

I actually had a simular problem to this, except it was with a ADSL modem and it disconnected with anything BUT EVE, in the end i just changed the ADSL modem for a cheap one and it it fixed the problem, not had any problems with the modem since.
Not sure if its the same prob but if you can get a spare dial up modem from a friend or something it might be worth trying.
Sorry if this isnt much help as it was likely quite a different problem. ------------------------------------------------- Defend Amarr space, join the Auctoritan Syndicate today |

Problably poorly written modem drivers,
Try updating the modem drivers from the manufacturer, failing that try and find out who made the modem and get them straight from them.
Or failing that, get a better modem (Either external or a PCI internal)
It is possible that your software modem is having to fight for CPU power with eve and eve is winning, thus dropping the connection. Better modem drivers have higher priority than programs and as such dont suffer as badly. I still dont like software modems though.

Im currently having this problem with ADSL/BT broadband.
I have updated all my drivers and windows updates incase. I have a secure firewall and have scanned for spyware and virus's. I have even contacted BT to have the line checked twice and there is no problem with my line. It only seems to do it when I try to load EVE.
Frustrating
