Recently I undocked in my heron and by time my screen had loaded my ship was targeted and pointed. Not sure if this was lag or is working as intended, but seems a bit sh*te tbh.
Seeing as i was in a frigate obviously couldn't tank the 30 sec to redock...why not put a cloak on undock similar to gates?? or at least some windows in station :p
1 more quick question, can a dictor bubble the undock or do they have to stay a certain distance away(wasn't bubbled but just curious)

You have a window, it's called "Local". If there are people in system that you think (or know) are out to kill you, then either don't undock or undock only when you have something you know will survive. You can see them in Local so you know they are in system, and you can look at the "Guests" tab on the stations screen to see if they are also docked in station with you or not.

A bit of both. Normally you're invulnerable until you gain control of your ship. However, sometimes lag happens and you'll be targeted.

Because then people could undock with impunity. Undocking from a station makes you extremely vulnerable. This is intended

You can normally warp away before you can be locked after undocking.

Edited by: jaws104 on 02/01/2009 14:38:48 Ye but there are always people in station systems in 0.0, and seeing who's in station just tells you who's not sitting outside. I mean at least with gates you have a good chance of getting away in a frigate. With stations it appears the opposite, your doomed.
People bang on about how they got straight into 0.0 from day 1, do they really have to rely on people to get eyes on a station just to get out ?

If you're being war decced or participating in the FW you should definitely have an undocking BM. Really you should have one at all stations you frequent regularly and have them before you need them.
How to make an undocking BM:
Get in a fast ship with an AB or MWD and fly out at least 260km (1000km is probably better)in a straight line from the station. Basically undock, crank it up to full speed, and then activate your AB or MWD. Once you've gotten to where you feel is a safe point stop the ship and make a BM. Name/mark it in such a way that you can instantly identify it when using the right click menu.
That way when you undock you can right click and hit warp to your BM and you warp instantly, no need to align. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. |

Are losses due to lag petionable? I'm not bothered over a t1 frig loss but if i was flying something expensive down the line...

In theory, yes. In practice they always say something like 'we looked at the logs and show no errors fo f**k you' (I'm paraphrasing because you can't quote GMs, but that's the gist). I hear tell they do accept some and cough up occasionally, but my mate Dave reckons he's seen Bigfoot too. Personally until I have pictures of one at his bar mitzvah I remain sceptical. And even then I'm more likely to suspect Photoshop.

No, they undock, get blown up (sometimes) and then go buy another ship.
Every ship you own in EVE will get blown up unless you keep it docked forever. EVERY SHIP. The entire eve economy depends on ships getting blown up. Don't think of your ship as a loss, think of it as economic stimulus.

You could get a second account and use an alt scout, but that becomes tedious, too. I say just don't undock in anything you can't afford to lose. .............

I guess it comes down to the "don't act before you know", you didn't know it was clear to undock hence you shouldn't. In other words use tactics and teamwork to KNOW before acting.

It was lag because unless you move your ship, you are unlockable for 30seconds after undocking.

That's actually a good idea. I'll have to try that. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

If you undocked and your screen remained black so that by the time it loaded space you were already being engaged in combat -> this is lag.
None of the suggestions anyone here gave you about undock bookmarks and having someone check the undock before you came out would have helped.
Why? You took fricken forever to load the scene!!!
Let's say it's just you and one other guy in local, both docked in the same station. You undock. You get the whole loading bar and all that stuff which then goes away but your screen remains black for an unexpectedly long amount of time. Uh oh...by the time you load, the other guy who was in local has already brought you down to 50% armor.
Whenever the screen takes an "unexpectedly" long amount of time to load, your best bet is to log off. If you're not already dying at least then you're telling your ship to warp away. T
ypically you have about 30 seconds where you are invulnerable after your ship undocks (which can happen before you load the screen mind you). As soon as you move your ship or do something in-game that invulnerability disappears though as well. ---
