Zomg! like a huge brain storm here.... i was bored and was looking for games online at Direct2drive and then it hit me.... Eve online would make a awesome RTS game, it could have the same settings as this but with a commander controlling the players, now you'll have the same ships and mechanics and all but normal NPC ships will have just basic skills while players that enter the game will have the ability to train like in eve and the commander will have better units! The mining could be automotive to give the commander Minimals inch he can either sell or use to build. just little idea, i thought it would be awesome to see this happen, i mean i would go out and pay what ever the cost was to get this game if it came out!
I mean it has all the makings of a RTS in space, all that would have to be done is change the interface for the commander and what not and it could be done i belive, but meh lets talk about this!

I could live out my dream of bringing the Amarr Empire to it's knees! And then kicking it in the face XD in Campaign mode.
Then i could take some systems from random pirates and factions to further expand the Mighty Minmatar Republic in skirmish mode!
You would have to occupy all the planets in the system to win, and you could set up POS's or stations to make ISK.... this could be awesome!

Edited by: Wolfae on 02/01/2009 21:51:31 and and and you could still have all the different types of ship but you would need a factory of the company that produces them, a Boundless Creation factory if you wanted the Hound for example.
You could still salvage wrecks but they disappear after a few minutes to prevent the map becoming full of them.
and lots of exotic dancers... somewhere
edit: But you couldn't have T2 from the get go, coz you would need to build a bigger factory, but you can hire mercs of any ship type if you have the cash

Edited by: Wolfae on 02/01/2009 22:14:46 How would you incorporate the modular item system? You can't customize each individual ship in fleet that would take forever and some people find it boring. I get my bf to do all my ship fitting.
edit- i guess you could research and/or buy modules whose advantages then apply to all ships that it makes sense for them to have?
also rats could still spawn in your precious ISK making belts so you would still need to keep them defended, or maybe that could be an option?
and some of the ship types could be left out. For the purpose of system domination you wouldn't need all of them and it would be very complicated to learn/play

You simply pre-do the mod lay outs, when you build the ship it will auto fit with them items, or you can simply fit one ship manually and then tell all others to dock and reoutfit the same way.

When people say eve is a RTS, what they are getting at is that the game is very similar to a RTS, only that each individual unit is a real player. The bosses of the mega alliances are the commanders in EVE's RTS, while the rest of the players are the cannon fodder. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Lolz, you still don't know what your talking about, Eve is nothing like a RTS, its a TS game (tatical Stratgey) there really are no commanders giving us commands on the field, just people behind the desk that tell us we what this and we are going to war with them and what not.... nothing like a RTS.

Actually, eve would be the most RTS game i have ever seen, because units can defect, be useless, go afk, sell secrets to the enemy, not come back when they die, are real people etc. Note that in WW2 troops did not come out of some magical factory and when they die get replaced by somone who looks, talks, smells and fails identically as they do. By the way, does it annoy you when you didnt realise that you were reading my sig? |

You must have very little real 0.0 alliance experience... Without someone there to tell the troops what to do, you cannot successfully take or hold any real space.
Also... Quote: people behind the desk that tell us we what this and we are going to war with them and what not
Is that not precisely what a commander is?? Some person telling his/her underlings what to do?
Read the following definition of a RTS and tell me that EVE does not have all the aspects described, the only real difference being that we are the units as well as the commanders etc...
In an RTS, as in other wargames, the participants position and maneuver units and structures under their control to secure areas of the map and/or destroy their opponents' assets. In a typical RTS it is possible to create additional units and structures during the course of a game. This is generally limited by a requirement to expend accumulated resources. These resources are in turn garnered by controlling special points on the map and/or possessing certain types of units and structures devoted to this purpose. More specifically, the typical game of the RTS genre features resource gathering, base building, in-game technological development and indirect control of units. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

EVE is already a RTS. You're just too small to notice.

Yup, its the reason I bought it. It made me think of EVE. And because there isn't much of a story bound to it I can see people making some mods for that game with EVE ships :P
well... even though theres no actual story, you really get a feel for each race though. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |
