There acre certainly places in the forums where censorship on the harsher words is necessary to remain in standing with the game's maturity rating. The Library seems to suffer a little from it though: having to insert punctuation into words like 'bo.llocks' and 'dr.ape' to prevent occurrances of '*******s' and 'd****' are... well, it's a bit ridiculous. There are writers who take pride in never resorting to harsh language; however, it is useful in developing a character or demonstrating heightened emotions.
Is there any way to loosen the strictures a bit, or are they hard-coded in? I noticed that 'crack' had been put on the allowables list a while ago. ---------------------------------

dodging the profanity filter's not hard, but I agree that it's annoying.
That thing needs a serious overhaul. Or better yet, scrapping entirely - the EVE community has an average age of... what? 27, something like that?
I think we're grown up enough to put up with a little cussing here and there, and there are mods for when it gets out of hands. -

Unfortunately, there is a one word answer as to why the profanity filter probably won't be removed:
Trolls.
While it would be extremely nice if they could remove the filter and then warn/ban abusers on an individual basis, this is also unlikely - heck, they don't even bother going after people who bypass the filter wither periods or spaces in the middle of words. Is it really logical to expect them to remove the filter, then do what they aren't now? ----------------------------------------------
Say "Amarr ships suk, lol." I dare you.

Edited by: Stitcher on 03/01/2009 23:51:08 fair point I guess. It's still annoying, though. If they just went through there and got rid of some of the really annoying ones like "Cockpit" "Crack" and "Scrape" it'd help. That wouldn't require a constant effort, just an afternoon's work by one of the ISD guys.
And no, they haven't already been fixed, I just haXX0r3d them. -
