Hello, im training my alt to run lvl 4 missions for me in empire and he is a minmitar pilot.
So i was wonder which of the two ships, a tempest or a maelstrom, would be better for this?
The tempest does alot of dmg, and id fit it out with artillery snipe / mild shield tank and lots of dmg mods.
The maelstrom ive never flown before, but its bonuses are for tanking and dmg.
So has anyone ever flown both and could give me advice on which to fly please?

Maelstrom, the tempest will do less damage in a typical level 4 fit and tank less. I used something along the lines of
8x 1200mm
2 invuln
1 specific hardener
1 x-l booster (rf is cheap if you don't have the skills)
1 100mn ab
1 shield boost amp
3 gyros
2 pdus
swap the amp for an injector if you are not feeling confident and make sure you have tech 2 lights available to you to get out when things go wrong and when you are new to level 4's they will.

I fly Minmatar, and have used both the Tempest and the Maelstrom on level 4 missions (I haven't used my Typhoon however, and its still a battleship to consider for these as well - if you have decent cruise/torp/drone skills).
Um.. hmm.. it really depends on alot of things. The maelstrom is nice because you can Active shield tank it as well as put a decent passive shield tank on it. With eight 1200mms or 1400mms, it does a nice bit of damage... even if Arties suck.
The Tempest on the other hand does 93.75% (my calculations - Minmatar Battleship V skill) of the base damage the Maelstrom does but uses only six guns to achieve it. The extra two high slots can be used for either more DPS such as Cruise missiles(which, depending on your skill, would make it outdamage a Maelstrom) or support like Remote shield/armor reppers if your primary gets in trouble.. or if you plan to do a little bit of salvaging, tractor and salvage beams.
The Typhoon may actually be a better fit, if you have good drone and missiles skills.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

thankyou both for the advise, my missile skills are bad, non existant.
I'll use a maelstrom.
