Arcelor Capital's
Market Report
December 28th 2008 to January 3rd 2009
*** Welcome to the 2nd Weekly Summary Report of the Eve Market Discussion Forum ***
In this issue...
- A Week of Rankings Brings in the New Year on MD Discussion
- Bonds vs. IPOs Debated
- Hauling vs. Trading: Rehashing the Great Debate
- Entity ... Scammed?
- IPO Update: Week of Dec 28th - Jan 3rd
- XABIER'S Mineral Index
RANKINGS BRING IN THE NEW YEAR From Trading Hubs to Investment Opportunities, Boredom with Family Prompts A New MD Obsession with Numeracy Rankings were the rage in the MD Discussion forums this week as Christmas Turkey seemed to have traders in a more reflective mood. With multiple threads opened over the week (one simply asking if any exist) forum watchers could not help but put in for the fascinating read.
Jezala put the discussion to rest with this informed response:
Quote: Jita - primary hub; distinguishes itself as being the only hub that can move T2 components
Rens - 2nd only to Jita; more independent of Jita influences than Amarr.
Amarr - 3rd. Similar to Rens but Amarr's proximity to Jita causes Amarr to be more sensitive to Jita fluctuations.
Dodixie - 4th. Due to the mission running system in and around Dodixie plus it's relative proximity to the major travel pipelines, Dodixie has outgrown Oursurlaert as the primary Gallente market hub.
Oursurlaert - 5th. Still an active market but has been on the decline. Oursurlaert serves as the center of the hub that has Orvolle and Stacmon as the spokes. The more informed traders will bypass Oursurlaert and go to Dodixie instead.
Hek - 6th. Lies between the Rens and Oursurlaert pipeline. Considered to be the secondary market hub for the Minmatar regions. It doesn't always have everything you need, but that market is healthy enough to support the local pvp and industrial economies.
Orvolle - 7th. Small hub that is critical to the market that serves Placid, Syndicate, and Cloud Ring. It's remoteness from the other major hubs makes Orvolle a popular trade hub as well as a major transit point.
Agil - 8th. Probably tied for 7th with Orvolle. Serves the same functions as Orvolle except it serves the Querious, Stain, and Catch regions.
Of course, the best trade hubs weren't the only things ranked. The week found itself filled with ranking threads, including one asking for the objective "best" trader character (According to the EveHQ character builder "Goal Seek" function, the fastest training pure trader would be an Amarr, Ni-Kunni, Free Merchant, business, Entrepreneur, with C15,I5,M8,P7,W4 - who knew?)
Of course all of these ranking threads raise the question: if MD truly is "market PvP" why all the help? Ranking threads seem only to help the competition when it comes to making optimal selections. As the debate continues over whether to maintain the exclusivity of the MD forums, these answers seem to prove that newbies really can gain quite a bit seeking help in Market Discussion.

Don't you have better things to do? Not only must you spend hours READING - then you take the time to summarize?
No one even reads this.

Just because they turned you down for a job is no reason to be so hostile. Now the fact that your mom isn't sure who your dad is, that might be a good reason. Gotta blame someone for that 11th toe!

So much hostility. By the way ISK is real money. You can trade it for GTC. ... so Pwned again I guess. |

Thank you for your fine work Joseph, I enjoy your work. Even mentioned to Shar on Vent that I enjoy how you spin things in an amusing way vs the often hostile, things suck way of our worldly media (which I boycott for this very reason)
I look forward to future works. You add enjoyment to my game with your writings.

Originally by: Joseph Shephard Yet, aren't such stock "shares" just bonds without a maturity dates? Yes they are, and they are a financial tool almost certainly much more valuable to companies and investors than the current regimented bond financing scheme.
Report all you will (and I do enjoy these summaries), but be careful to not make statements that are factually incorrect. Just because there is no way to enforce a shareholder vote doesn't mean that shareholders don't have a vote, and furthermore, there is a significant difference between bonds and shares that goes far beyond the maturity date. Whether or not most IPOs in EVE have been properly run is another question, and it's one for the discussions you've reported on. Regardless, it's important to recognize that there's more at hand in this debate than maturity dates and success rates. |

I, for one, would love to have you bullet list the issues. As they relate to Eve and what goes in Eve.
In case you didn't notice but we are talking about Eve here. Not what they teach kids in school. |

Joseph
This is a very nice summary on what is going on in MD. It gives access to all updates relating to IPO/bonds and major threads without having to weed through the forum pages.
