Okay, no internet at work... anyone know of a good offline space game that is similar to Eve? I mean with click flight like Eve, too...

More a strategy game than a pew pew shooty type, but a good game nonetheless.

As suggested above, X3: Reunion and X3: Terran Conflilct are great. Nexus: Jupiter Incident also suggested is an absolutely incredible game and a must play if you haven't yet. I keep praying that there'll be a sequel one day, but alas nothing as yet. Seriously, play this if you haven't yet.
Avoid Darkstar One, because it's frankly a bit *%&$ Has interesting bits but is ultimately very underwhelming. And lastly, there's always Freelancer, fantastic game in every regard. -------------

Not exactly what you're looking for, but Sins of a Solar Empire is awesome. Think Civ4 + Supreme Commander, in space.

I think I tried Nexus The Jupier Incident demo once some years ago. I wasn't able to make sense of the controls. Total failure :\ Same thing for X3, I think that one requieres Joystick and sadly I don't have one. Freelancer however, is awesome old game, HOWEVER, if you're going to play it, close your eyes while the game is starting (cutscene) and open them with the noise of the explosions are gone.
There's a REALLY big spoiler right at the start of the game. I distracted myself with something and missed it. Later on the game I had a really big surprise!

I love X3. Really seriously is one of the best games i've ever played. My only problem with it is that yu need to settle in for the long haul, to play it properly a game can last for months and months. That isn't a bad thing, I just have the attention span of a gnat suffering from ADD thats been sat in an empty room with blank walls and no windows.

I just picked up Nexus. Here's a quick question: how the hell do I exit the game normally once I'm playing? ESC does nothing and I can't find any menu button!

there is a minor problem where here and there the keyboard doesnt seem to work properly. dunno what causes it, but its rather annoying.
Just er.. jam random keys till they start working? Eventually it will work.

Edited by: Lothris Andastar on 07/01/2009 07:44:34 Play Freespace 2.
Now that the engine is open source and has pretty much been rewritten from the ground up by fans, its pretty much a current generation game.
As for X¦ (SPELL IT PROPERLY GAWDDAMNIT!) Its a great game but if EvE is considered to have a hard difficulty curve, X¦ has no curve, just a shear face going up about elevently billion miles before doing several loop-de-loops then going the other way That is all.
VIVA LA CHIRBBA!

/me shrugs.
I certainly disagree there.
The only thing unbelievably hard about x3 was (feel free to quote-edit that to proper spelling ) believeing how badly coded it seemed at times. In fact there is this little phenomenon that reminds me of eve:
You're playing a breathtakingly good game and suddenly something so utterly ralphwiggumstupid crosses your path, you have to wonder how they managed to wedge that in.
