I've recently aquired a Stabber. Since i put almost all my money in it i havent ventured into .0 sec systems looking for NPC pirate Cruisers. I don't know if i can cope with them. I havent also fitted any medium weapons on it. I've been using the same dual 150 prototype siege cannons i had in my rifter, plus one. My question is: is it worth it to buy the plain medium weapons you find on the market, for the range if nothing else (i'm thinking 650mm). Or is it possible to survive .0 with my present setup?
4 dual 150 proto siege cannons. Medium CL-5 (?) shield booster. Lif- Afterburner, Afterburner. (No MWD yet...) Assorted damage /rof modules.
With this setup, i shoot fairly quickly, average some 60-70 a second, efective bellow 15km.

the damage of the worst medium turret should be higher then the best of the small. i think all the damage multipliers are the same when you go from a small turret to it's medium counter-part, but the damage of medium ammo is twice that of small ammo. so i'd try to equip as many medium turrets as you have power for.

Don't forget about RoF. Thanks to it, damage over time is more or less the same (within 20% margin). The only truely better thing is range. ----------------------------------------------------------

the store-bought medium projectiles are all completely useless... stick to your dual 150mm's You'll easily survive npc cruisers up to 40k bounty.

can someone send me a screen of the stabber ingame? don't know how it looks like, and it would be fun to know.
Thank you!

you can do 0.0 space in a well equipped rifter, never mind the beast you have.
I would always take anti jamming equipment if you are going solo.

Thank you all for your inputs. Yes, anti jamming was going to be my next question. I'll have to look into it and invest a few skill points there. I must say i was somewhat reluctant about leaving my Rifter. The inherent damage bonus was kinda addictive. However the extra gun on the Stabber makes up for that.

i am still training a couple of skills so i havent outfitted my stabber for combat yet, although for mining i use 3 dual diode mining lasers, 1 650mm and 1 a3 missle launcher and i can mine in low seclev systems just fine (only been down to 0.4 so far to mine). some of the fighter pilots in my corp are running 3 650's and a medium mod laser on their stabbers and they are always in 0.0 systems and do fine....cant remember what they have on their other slots at the moment.

I would go for at least some "Heavy" medium weapons on the Stabber. Two Heavy Medium Beam Lasers or 650mm Artillery, then either two top-of-the-line small frigate projectile artillery with Fusion ammo for backup, or two mining lasers for ninja-mining.
That's a pretty standard fit on a Stabber, which doesn't really have the power of the true heavy cruisers to run more than two "non-drop" heavies. Also, in case of the lasers, the Stabber doesn't have enough cap to run more than two effectively anyway.
Two "heavy" medium weapons and two "heavy" small weapons leave you plenty of room for a pretty good combination of H-50 w/ defender, 3k-range small smartbombs, and MWD for missile defense. And you can hit from 20k orbit, which is what it's all about. =/

Personally I get a kick out of the M Hybrids. Trained Engi up to 4, and with two reactor control units I can fit all my ECM equipment as well as two 250mm Rails and two M-12 launchers into a Blackbird. Cut down a few pirate medium range frigates in a single shot last night. I would definitely invest in the medium guns. ---------------------------------------------- "He that will not apply new remedies must expect new evils; for time is the greatest innovator." -Unknown -------------------------------------- |

Those less familiar with the Stabber may not know but it is geared towards HI-Slots, 6 of them , and only 3 of each of tjhe others. Therefore you have to carefully pick your medium slot modules (namely) in order to fit your playing style or specific objectives. Considering that a shield booster and a AB/MWD are almost mandatory in combat configurations, we (Stabber pilots) are left with One Medium to add variety.

I have "store-bought" medium projectiles and I do some 200+ wrecking hits from time to time.. I have some neat things in my lo slots.
I've found plenty of pirate-drop lasers and hybrids; what pirates drop projectiles?

I have a Stabber with 2 heavy beam lasers (medium energy turrets) with multi M crystals. 1 650mm artillery and 1 200mm carbine howitzer (a small projectile turret) with ti sabot or fusion ammo. I use 2 m-12's with missiles that do explosive damage as well. Mid slots I use a medium clarity ward, an LiF afterburner, and eather an AGM cap charger or a shield recharger I. Toughest npc's so far were 3 beasts solo, which wasnt to big a problem. I use an afterburner for npc's as I need the cap and shields to be effective. Low slots get 1 reactor control I (tech lvl 2) which gives 10% to power grid. Last 2 slots are 1 Partial hull conversion overdrive and 1 stamped heatsink OR just 2 stamped heatsinks. All of that gear is standered accept the 200mm carbine howitzer.
To solo pirate cruisers and get the loot in a stabber or similer cruiser you may find the pirates respawn before or just after you kill the last one. What I do is take all their shields and armour down to a very low state then kill all of them quickly. That way I have time before they spawn to grab the loot.
For pvp i use a pretty different setup including a mwd and fight with other corp mates or allies, never alone unless the other ship is a lvl 2 cruiser solo as well. A fair fight in pvp is rare, i like to be on the side with the advantage :oP

The only decent stock medium weapon is the 650mm. I am currently running 3 of them as I farm for 420 scouts.
My best hit with one is 297 (post nerf) and averages around 80-100.
My last slot is a 150mm scout and it is very nearly as good DPS as the 650. I am consdering just mounting 4 of those until I get the 420 scouts. The main reason being the tasty turret tracking speed. You take a big hit on that with medium weapons (especially stock) and I do notice the hit/miss rate difference when fast moving ships get close to me.

CrazzlY: I don't have a screenshot of it, but the Stabber Cruiser looks alot like a Rubber Chicken. You'd know it if you see it.

Beseb that is a great tip, I have been hunting anything better than frigate scout weapons for 3 days and found bugger all.

I went with the dual 150 scout artillery and did pretty well against what i found, up to 20000. Didn't try the others. Then along came some player pirates and although i could put the hurt into a rupture i still died first.
Now its back to the Rifter. I'm solo and Cruisers are expensive.
