All through my Eve playing career, I have always been warned about the hive of s****and villainy that fly in Rancer
I actually fly there once in a while in my looting frig looking for salvage and am never dissapointed to see wrecks looting its gates.
So for those that know, why exactly is Rancer such a pirate paradise?

0.4 between two market hubs vs new players not having learned that rancer is the nightmare that happens when you take a short cut.

The closest way from Metropolis to Jita goes through Rancer. It's a difference of like 20 jumps to go through Rancer and 40 jumps to avoid it.

Two reasons. One is that it is located on a major shortcut between two major trade and mission hubs. Two is that one of the gates is so far from any celestial objects that no matter where you initiate warp you will land on it in a very predictable zone. Add some smartbombing bs to zap people before they fully leave warp and know you know the rest of the story.

Rancer victimizes the clueless. It's easily avoided.
It's also a nice place to go when you want to kill pirates though! --- My opinions are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my corp or alliance. |

Yup. Just take a tanked nanoed cruiser to bypass the sb camp and make some off grid bms to warp to before you warp to the gate. As far as killing the rancer pirates you will need 5~8 points or 1 hic per ship to lock them down due to them having wcs fitted because smartbombs dont need a lock.

Thank you everybody!
That is what i figured. As for the Noobs, I just hope they make the mistake only once of going into Rancer unprepared. Still, its kind of fun going in there to hunt/be hunted. |

there is a different route that is only 2-3 more jumps which takes you through some quiet low sec systems.
you just have to take your time and look at the map to figure it out |

Rancer is still just as bad as ever - only idiots go there though. Everyone else sets Rancer to "avoid" or realises when they jump into Otou or Crielere that their autopilot was set wrong
I lost my first [beloved] Iteron Mark III to the Rancer crews about 3 months into playing on my first char, and I've never entered the system since then, but I do still hear whines from help chat about it. |

It's camped a lot by two corps that have alt scouts in the entire area and either dock up out out blob anyone trying to kill them, most of the time.

I like the United as its satisfying to watch them smartbomb when I had warped to another planet first to change my trajectory. Gimps!

:( Sorry, must respond to this... Like last time you came through? We have 6 ships on gate (1 HIC, 1 Rapier, 3 Combat BS, 1 Smartbomber) you bring ~8 BS and 2 Falcons. Options?
Dock up. Fight and die. Call for some blackup.
Next time you want an honest fight out of my corp don't try and blob US.
Otherwise <3 VHI, the heaviest industry tbh. We have had many good fights with one another and hopefully many more.
However on occassion we do stand and fight, we do go roaming far far away, although it often all ends in a blaze of fail for us, because frankly, we do suck badly.
Lowsec is perfectly safe, if you know what you're doing, there are ways to get past camps even in BSes, you can avoid smartbombs easily. It's quite simple really. |

Because if u r a minnie noob, you have to pass through it to get anywhere interesting. Makes for easy pickings for gay alliances like negative ten and their dastardly corporation the untied. Just set your auto-pilot to avoid rancer. problem solved. |

I wish the dev that asked what was wrong with combat in EVE would read this post right here (think it was bellum's thread).
You sit, on a gate, for hours a day, and kill solo ships, or at best, ones and twos, with 6 guys. The first time, your presented with a situation that outnumbers you, you call for back up, or dock, which is EXACTLY what is wrong with the combat here.
Imagine if your scouts couldn't see the approaching threat till it was too late (gate jump)cause of a local nerf, or if you couldn't dock with a GCC, man, the tears, and fights would be awesome.

Actually I support a local nerf, it would help us immensely when we are not camping gates (which is something we haven't been doing recently, can't get the traffic these days and we've had plenty of more exciting things to do), and add a bit of spice to when we do.
We have plenty of action off gates in all kinds of ships, we win some we lose some.
I have been told that Real men pvp in 0.0. Although I seem to get blobbed there more than anywhere, and don't talk about the Falcons. I have seen plenty of camps by 0.0 entities (and boy do they camp) happily bubble up noob ships and shuttles but run away from fights that they may even have a decent chance of winning. What can you do eh?
What we do on the gate is no different to a Miner grinding the belt or the Missioner grinding his missions, it makes us iskies so we can go out and enjoy PVP.
