I'm newish to Amarr ships (this is my Amarr alt, in other words)...and maybe it's just EFT being full of lies as usual...but here's how it seems to me:
I look at the Omen and the Maller (which seem to be the only even sort of combat-oriented Amarr cruisers) and they have fit problems, lousy tank, low dps, etc.
Anyone have a recommendation as to which of these things I should fly? Is either of them not abject misery? Fit suggestions very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Edited by: Xori Ruscuv on 07/01/2009 20:31:35 Arbitrator? :) Maller does fine for level 2s, too.
For level 3s, you really want to be using a BC imo. A BC for level 3s IS a bit overkill, but a cruiser will be a pain.

Yeah, this is for lvl 2's...I don't see nearly as much problem once I get into BC's .
I'd fly an Arbitrator but my drone skills are more or less non-existent...guess it wouldn't take long to fix that though...

This setup below should excel in a lvl 2:
[Omen, Lvl 2 Missioner] Medium Armor Repairer II N-Type EM Hardener I N-Type Thermic Hardener I N-Type Thermic Hardener I Heat Sink II
10MN Afterburner I Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Focused Medium Beam Laser I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Beam Laser I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Beam Laser I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Beam Laser I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Medium Beam Laser I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hornet I x3
Maybe 10 mil isk. Tight fit with 2 pg left for me. You could drop the med repper and put on a named t1 for lower pg. (or train AWU to lvl IV )

You could use a frigate for lvl2s too and a BC for level 3s and skip Amarr cruisers. Arbi is great but you really have to focus on Drones to be effective with it... I don't recommend that for new players who have more important priorities: spending too much time training drones could delay your access to BCs and BSs and make you less effective for lvl 3 and 4 missions.

A lvl 2 frigate is rather skill intensive imho. Better to go with a cheap cruiser.
A 1 month old player could be in an AF though

A half reasonable fited Omen has no problem with level 2 missions.I made it with a shield tanked Omen and I have a trader background. So realy, no problem. |

Maller is a nice level2 mission ship. Only need Eng/Elec/WU at level 4, something you should have at minimal, and is all tech1 or named.
If your tank is easily handling the damage, swap out a EANM for a heatsink.

Definitely some ideas there...I hadn't considered the AF route, 2's in an AF are actually a lot of fun...hmm...all the feedback's appreciated.
Thanks!

Passive shield tanked arbitrator.
Lvl 3 drone and shield skills will allow you to afk nearly any lvl 2 mission. |

Fly the Arbi, and get your drone skills up ASAP. You'll need it, either you plan to PvE or PvP.
Here's why:
Originally by: Kristal Meth I've been using a Zealot and have had no problems with T2 Amarr missions. *****.
I took out my Zealots to help some friends in lv2's. Instapopped everything in the first couple of missions. Then we got one with two cruisers that orbited at high speed, far out. I have all relevant t2 gunnery, support, ship etc skills at 5, few at 4. Well, after 20 mins and it was clear I wasn't going to kill even ONE of those two ships, I went and picked up an Arbitrator. Killed them in a couple of seconds and never looked back.
Just giving you a little tip here for the future, a little thing you can repeat inside your head; never fly with lasers in missions. Never fly with lasers in missions. Never fly with lasers in missions.
Ok, now you can go out and own nubs in PvP. Leave missions to missiles and drones. You know what, I'll even give one more example just to illustrate this - I got an alt running missions in Amarr space. She had learning done and +4 implants, when I decided to train to a Raven (she had skills into trading/hauling etc). After three weeks, with mostly level 3-skills, she beat up Misanth in 90% of the missions (Raven vs Abaddon/Apoc).
I havn't even bothered to buy a Paladin even tho I can fly it, tried on SiSi. It's nice, but it's not nearly as fast as the CNR my alt is running. With t2 fittings now, still t1 launchers. And ALOT faster. There's some 10% of missions where you get enough battleships + the right vulnerability to make the Amarr bs better.
Never fly with lasers in missions. Get your droneskills up asap, fly Arbi -> Harbinger -> then either crosstrain, move to 0.0 to rat, or enjoy a couple of years training before you can almost match a 3 week old Raven-pilot. Either of our bs works, just poorly.

For lvl2's a maller should do the trick.
Not much firepower on it but it tanks anything on those missions easly, but if u wanna really do them fast and easy try doing them in a AF, the retri is very nice for that.

They were more than 35km away (Pulse) and you couldn't catch them with an afterburner, or were more than 100km away (beams) and you couldn't catch them with an afterburner?
p.s. lasers are awesome for missions against anything except guristas and angels, dunno why you're finding yourself outperformed by a raven? I use T2 pulse on an apoc, goes pretty fast, training for a tachyon paladin. __________________________________

Passive curse. If you're using any other cruiser in the game you're either doing it horribly wrong or doing it with absolutely no style at all. Most importantly, how are you supposed to tell whether this is part of my post or my signature? |
