Edited by: Dennmoth Ferdier on 08/01/2009 09:16:13 You know, our frigates are way larger than the eiffel tower.
They cost millions of isk.
Somewhere it said a normal family living on a planet can hope to achieve 10,000 isk in the course of their lifetime, but the biggest ships we can fly cost tens of billions. And many do fly them.
In addition;
Our missiles have enough megatons to blow up a small planet.
We can fly across the universe, and cross solar systems in seconds.
We colonized space.
We have ships the size that can house a small city worth of people as crew.
We have modules that jam, extract, tractor, scan, warp and do amazing things.
God knows how long we've been around in New Eden already.
All these amazing feats of technology and human know-how would lead me to believe it'd be possible to lock the door of your multi-million - multi billion spaceship when you go stretch your legs.
Shouldn't be too hard to have a small key in your pocket, that you click and the lights on your titan blink to let you know it's now safely locked.
I vote for door lock BPO lottery.
Over and out. ------ Heart for isk, Balls for risk. |

The titan should "chirp" too. That's be pretty sweet in Ambulation to step out of your ship, turn around, do an emote like /lockship and it flashes and chirps at ya, then you walk away.
Dammit CCP, consider this for Ambulation, would ya? Would definitely add to the immersion factor. lol. :P

The bigger question here is; Is the smack necessary to get your wife to have anal sex with you, or do you just smack her, and then go have anal sex with someone else?

The smack is like chocolate sauce on vanilla ice cream. It's not necessary, but it makes the deal a whole lot sweeter.
Or, you can just skip the smack AND the wife and go see the ex. |

No they cant, and oddly enough this is an intended drawback to piloting a ship that can instapop any number of BS in an instant.
Also if you are stupid enough to trust anyone not to nick it at a pos, you dont deserve the titan.

I had my security professor tell me once, I hammer is a great tool, but it can used for good, or bad. Lots of security tools can be used for bad. So your right, all the technology in eve, you don't think a pilot couldn't 'hack' the system and still get in?
However the part about piloting a titan with thousands of co-pilots not noticing is a bit of a stretch. |

I've always thought that part didn't jibe well with the canon fiction. It would seem that even ships as gigantic as a Titan are entirely automated when run by a Pod Pilot. Otherwise, how the heck could you reasonably steal the thing? Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

Originally by: Dennmoth Ferdier I'd like to see you "hack" a 50 ton tritanium lock that opens with a key the size of your finger. It can't be hacked if it's done old-school ;)
Actually, if the lock is to be opened with a key the size of your finger, then it is unlikely that it is the LOCK that weighs 50 tons. This is because any "old-school" lock mechanism is turned manually by the key, and thus cannot require more torque to turn than the tensile strength of the key that must turn it.
Now, you COULD have a regular lock that is connected to an electronic switch. Turn the key and the electronics activates a series of solenoids or actuators that slides a gigantic lock-bolt aside. However that would be as easy to pick as a regular doorknob.
In truth, if one was to have a lock on one's spaceship, you would use a multi-stage authentication lock system. The best ones require at least two states: The state of knowing something, like a password or code key sequence, and the state of HAVING something, like a key, or "smart card" or the correct DNA double-helix pattern.
First you supply the thing you HAVE, and then the system asks you to confirm what you KNOW. This is nearly impossible to "pick" without the knowledge of the owner of the lock. From then you get into more complex setups like having to supply items and knowledge in a specific order. But at a certain point it becomes self-defeating in that it takes too long to open the lock. So two or three stage authentication locks are the most practical.
Personally, I wouldn't mind having lockable ships, as stealing ships from POSes is more common than it should be. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

Alright you're too smart for me to form witty enough answer, and seeing you wrote a post that long about a locking mechanism, you're at least twice as bored as I am which renders me unable to come up with anything remotely appropriate as a reply.
