Edited by: belgmarr on 09/01/2009 03:02:00 just asking around in general, what are your thoughts on going amarr for different types of pvping? im planning to train amarr for pvp since everyone is saying that real fleets dislike caldari missiles.
also how do you guys rate the 3 amarr battleships in pvp solo and fleet. |

Amarr are FOTM for good reason right now. While there are definitely better ships from other races (depending on the situation), you won't regret training Amarr for general PvP.

Solo battleships of any kind are a bad idea, but all three are excellent in gangs. The Armageddon provides amazing cheap dps, the Apoc is the second-best fleet sniper, and the Abaddon is the perfect gank/buffer ship (though incredibly cap-hungry). |

They are the top three battleships in the game right now. Armageddon is the best cheap battleship for killing everything. Apoc is the best ranged battleship for sniping small ships or toasting falcons, and is also excellent as an energy neutralizing platform. Abaddon is just a monster. |

Good call. Good gawd, even the rookies are getting good information somehow. But yeah mostly, I wish I had a buck for every FC who whined about Drakes and Ravens and Caracals no matter how well fit or piloted.

Amarr have been FOTM since the game began, try 1v1 a sader in either a crow or rapter, or see how well rounded the amarr bs fleet is against any other race in the game, yes other races have specialities but none are close to the power that is amarr.
Btw can I slip in a "zomg cpp have nerfed caldari again!"? but hey am a purist so I love it all the same ^^ |

No they haven't, when EM resists were higher, the Apoc was the worst BS ingame, the Zealot was poo, the Harbinger didn't exist, the Sacrilege was poo, when gangs were much smaller, when active tanking dominated, when everyone and their mother was fitting pre-nerf Nos, when other people had free mids for very powerful multispecs....
etc... etc... etc... Amarr used to be a very poor choice.
Originally by: belgtar why are amarr ships fotm?
FOTM comes and goes. Most likely, people realized that the range advantage from Amarr is still useful in small gangs and absolutely brutal in mid-size gang, where a (pulse) laser boat can switch targets instantly and start dealing DPS on the new target much faster than an autocannon or blaster boat, which has to MWD into range.
It doesn't hurt that laser boats are really effective at hitting nanoships either, which isn't so much an issue now but was in the past.
That, plus some relatively recent boosts (pulse laser tracking increase, apoc boost, zealot boost, EM armor resistance decrease) and the realization that EM is suddenly a good damage type (look at how many people are putting shield buffers on their ships! :D).

The abaddon is a monster because it has HUGE DPS and HUGE TANK and 4 mids, although at least one of those is going to be a cap booster, because it's the only laser boat without a cap use bonus.
