So I finally decided to try missions. Im now doing lvl III's but I will soon get lvl IV's. I have both gallente and amarr bs V and can use T2 large turrets.
80% of my friends have said to use Dominix, but I simply can't stand that ship. So with given situation, which would be the best ship for solo lvl IV missions - Armageddon, Apocalypse, Abaddon, Megathron or Hyperion?
I recently bought Hyperion due to armor repair bonus and 8 turret slots, but it kinda lacks 1 extra low slot. Your thoughts?

Edited by: Andrea Skye on 09/01/2009 12:25:43 Well i had a Apoc on my mission alt, and planning on getting a navy apoc as soon as i can use t2 large pulses.
Been messing with eft alot and came up with this:
Apocalypse -
8x Megapulse IIs
4x Cap Recharger IIs
Cap relay II 3x Mission specific hardeners 2x LAR's 1x heat sink II
Rigs: Capicitor control circuit, 2x Aux nano pump.
Tanks 870+ dps and spits out 574dps. Which is more than enough for pretty much any mission. With scorch you can hit upto 60km aswell.
Tracking isnt a problem, just get some Valkyries for the Drone bay and they kill frigates with hardly any trouble. The mega pulses can also track most cruiser sized rats.
Cant wait till my alt can fly it properly o.0 |

I've flown Abaddon a few times with my alt and have been pleased with the results. Apocalypse or Megathron (tracking bonus and big drone bay) are both good second choices. |

Edited by: Malovich on 09/01/2009 12:45:45 My mission alt uses an Abbadon for missions against EM-weak rats and it's a most effective missioner.
Highs- 8xMega Pulse II
Mids- 4xCap Rechargers
Lows- 3xMission Hardeners 1xLAR 2xHeat Sink II 1xCap Power Relay
Rigs- 3xCCC
With max skills, the above is cap stable and against Sanshas it will tank 483 DPS. Sounds weak, but with a DPS of 649 and a range of ~55 with Scorch, it's very rare for Sanshas to get that close to hit you. It can handle The Blockade fairly well, which is a mission that will get a fair number of BSes firing away at you. If cap stability is of less importance, you can drop the CPR for another HS, I just always have something else going so I don't always have the ability to micro-manage.
If you find a mission that needs more tank, drop the 2 heat sinks for another LAR and and a damage control. On max skills that will bump your armor tank up to 1136 vs. Sanshas, which is pretty damned ridiculous.

Since you already have pimp amarr and gallente skills I'd stick to an apoc/abaddon and start training up your shield tanking skills and getting caldari bs to 4 so you can jump into a Nightmare. Its a much much bigger step up in mission running power than a Navpoc over the t1 bs and will pwn any faction you run across. Needs at least a lg crystal set though to really shine and if you can afford the hg set then heheheheh.

I have modest skills and find that I still do well in my Abaddon. I pretty much use all T2 items except for my 8 megal pulse guns -- I do about 490 DPS (using AN MF crystals and not including drones) with 315 defense according to EFT.

Go with a navy mega TBQFH. They've dropped in price to 250mil (if not less), you get an extra slot to play with and the mega overall is an awesome mission ship simply because it puts out awesome DPS and tracks smaller ships with ease. |

passive shield tanked dominix with a full rack of 425mm railguns on high is the fastest and i've used all the gallente one in shield and armour rep versions.
if you can't abide a domni (even when zoomed out?) then the megathron is the next best as you want mimimum tank, maximum dps in missions and the megathron will give you more real world dps due to better tracking and bigger drone bay.
if you can fly hacs then the passive shield ishtar also rips through missions with a better tank and better speed in the levels

I take it you never flew an amarr battleship... Awesome dps and railguns don't go together, they suck compared to lasers.

I take it you've never bothered to compare realisticly fitted Gallente railboats vs realistically fitted Amarr Laserboats... They're pretty darn close.

Kronos is the best L4 mission ship hands down. If you lack the skills, a Navy Mega would be the second best tank setup. Lasers use too much cap to do their proclaimed damage while you're tanking at the same time. A Navy mega, properly fitted, can tank almost all L4's all day long short of all four spawns of Damsel in Distress - serpentis pocket of worlds collide, and enemies abound 5 of 5. Though another toon in a command ship makes 98% of the L4's a breaze in a navy mega and the kronos just owns by itself. Navy mega has a better tank then a hyperion despite the bonus to rep amount - even if you go dual reppers it is all about resists at the end of the day.

Which is a good thing as you are going to need lots of time with the pathetic dps rails put out or the time needed to ab your way to each and every rat to apply the omgwtfbbq blaster dps.

5 drones with good skills in drones and gunnery provides no problems in the dps area. I'd rather only need 1 CCC rig in a navy mega then need 2-3 CCC's to run everything in the laser world. It can be done with several ships and configurations. I just remember all the amarr ships I've had to help out because they kept having to warp out *shrug*

~75% of the DPS, but hybrid faction ammo is immensely more expensive than laser.
Edit: Also, for missions, in Amarr space, I'd go with the Abaddon. In Gallente, probably a rail boat. |

Apoc is the best choice for Blood, Sansha, and Rogue Drone missions, but will not be very strong against Angels and Guristas. For those missions, keep a Dominix in reserve.
The Abaddon is not as good as the Apoc. You may think it'll put out 25% more DPS, but that doesn't hold up if you have to load it with Radio crystals or switch to beam lasers to get the range you need. .............

as beginner i would go with an armageddon. it's very cheap, so a loos won't hurt you, but still performs good enough

You only worry about cap stability when you have the dps of a wet noodle and actually have to tank from downtime to downtime...

I do missions with a domi and rails suck. I mean they really really suck. Actually the only good thing is that they can take out structures from a range while your drones whack the ships.
If you want efficiency... go lazurs or missiles and as you already have amarr BS V and T2 turrets (lazors), stick to those. Best bet by far.
Domi does indeed look like a bloody sheephead, but it tanks. Oh baby it tanks. Stop whining. |

I take domi or mega. But really, a domi does not look nice i agree, but for missions its excellent (lazy, how i like it.)
Megathron is a fine choice, keep in mind those short range rats. In this case you will not be able to hit them with your 425MM's. So equip the right drones and/or some short range rails.

If you already bought it use it. It has enough tank for level 4's. It might have one less low slot, but hyp has 5 mid slots. More cap rechargers in mids = less/no cpr's or less/no cap rigs.
Learn some sentry drone skills too. They help on any battleship for lvl4 missions.

My faction fitted navy mega with good skills was outperformed by my CNR with t2/best named fitting with basicly none shield skills and crap missile skills. Now i got decent missile skills (cruise missiles + missile support skills to lvl 4, so cant even use t2 cruise missiles), and faction fitting on my CNR and it isnt even comparable, mega just plain sucks.
I havent used amarr BS myself, but from what i heard it is supposed to be quite a bit better vs sansha/bloodraiders than a CNR, and a bit worse vs other targets. So go for amarr BS.
And since you got BS V anyway, you might consider going for paladin, or otherwise a nightmare. They are just the best options. ---------------------------------------------
