Im thinking of making a new character, and i have a name in mind but not sure if i can use cause it is from a show/game. I looked at the naming rules, and there was nothing about using names from them. Anyone know if it would be against the ToS? I know some games dont like people using names from shows/games. |

There are characters named Chuck Norris and Sarah Palin, which are clearly against the rules, but Chuck at least has been there for years and years. Unless it is really Chuck and Sarah themselves playing EVE, this indicates to me that the rules are not really enforced unless maybe the RL person complains. |

Common names are not copyrightable.
So, Chuck Norris is a perfectly valid name. If my last name was Norris, it's perfectly within my legal right to name my kid Chuck.
Which would be kinda funny. |

Do it. It's propably taken though. It and most of it's common variants. For fun search for character names in-game. Even swear words and their variants are used as names.
Unacceptable names only get changed, if someone reports them and a GM deems it unacceptable. They get renamed to something like caldari citizen 87327478 and can petition for a new name after that. |

Oh you have hit a nerve here with me mate... Think hard before you select a name that has the potential to get changed.
I used to play SWG and was called Shagnasty, then after nearly a year of playing a GM appeared and insisted that I immediatly select a new name. I tried to explain that Shag was a bird, a rock group, a carpet, a tobacco and it was only their twisted minds that saw only the sexual reference. Alas my pleading fell on deaf (or stupid) ears and the name was changed. Bearing in mind that in that game (this one even more so) your relationship with others players was everything so a name change immediatly cut those relationships. I left SWG a week or so after that incident.
So, when I started playing this game I didnt take the risk again, hence Snasty.... |

I've been using this name for several months and so far neither Paramount or Nintendo have sent a cease and desist letter. |
