Am I missing something? This ship makes no sense to me.
2 high slots - So it can only Cloak and Scan, Scan and Cyno, Cyno and Cloak - But never all three? And the frigate bonus - +50% thermal damage to it's ONE drone? Additional hybrid damage for it's negative 1 turrets?
How are the frigate bonuses supposed to be utilized? Are the frigate bonuses just to make me cry?
What's going on with this ship?
Should I start training Caldari or Amarr frigates? :\
Not a QQ thread - I'm just confused and disapointed. |

Well, you could argue for a multitude of modules to be fit on it. Cloak, recon probe launcher, scan probe launcher, salvager and cyno being the typical ones. Yes, 2 highs are weaker than 3, but imho it's not really that big of a deal - the look of the ship is worse then. Maybe it's just me being a poor nublet, but to me it's rare with situations where I will need both a probe launcher, cloak and cyno where a recon is not simply better apt for it.
As for the bonus all covert ops have a pointless bonus, and this is most certainly also the reason the rest of them get a third highslot. Anathema and buzzard gets one and two missile bonuses, cheetah get 2 projectile. Obviously never to be used which means they get a free highslot. You get a drone bay instead.
Why they get the bonuses? Well, all t2 ships get 4 bonuses, these are really just placefillers.(And yes AF's would be the exception, but they still SHOW 4 bonuses in the description so meh)

If you're shooting something (other than a logged off pod, but your single drone can do that just fine) with a covops, you're doing something wrong. The Helios is kind of screwed over by the fact that it can't fit cloak/probe/cyno like the others, but just ignore the damage bonuses. |

Yeah, I thought about it a bit - And after reading the replies to this thread, I guess it's not a big deal, and it could be worse (maybe).
So I've done some calculations, and discovered that I could get in any other race's covert ops (and therefore E-attack as well) and it'd only take 3 more days.
So now I'm even more confused.
Suggestions? |

Disregard covert ops and stealthbombers and go by what af, intie and eas you like. I'd say it's a toss up races got better and weaker ships and it's all pretty balanced. Just depends on what you want to do. Parrots, commence!

QFT. They seriously screwed the pooch on that one. I don't even loathe the new skin the way some people do, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the old one. |

give the helios the third high slot. I wouldn't worry about the +drone thermal damage. Frankly, if you are fighting in a helios you already did something wrong.
No only did CCP make the helios hideous, they then thought it would be great for the covert ops to be the only covert ops that doesn't have a 3rd high slot.
There is no reason why this should be the case, absolutely none.

Helios needs:
+2 high -2 mid +1 turret
And most importantly: swap malus and imicus hulls (who the f**k flies a malus anyway?)
If it's got two damage bonuses we might as well use them

I'd be completely pleased with one more high, and 10m3 more dronespace!

I fit it with damps to lock down while the cavalry arrive. Thats usually why you see a Helios on Killboard.
What's one extra high going to do for it? add 20dps? As far as the cov-ops go the Helios is the easiest to fit without any fitting mods. The others are a pain without cov-ops V.

The extra high is for fitting Cyno/Scan/Cloak or a salvager. Guns on a helios?! Madness!

The feline one speaketh the truth. While the bonuses are wtf, Helios has the best power grid, which allows this fugly slow abberation to fit 2 damps. Good for assisting the gang, kb whoring, or just lulz.

Slow? Nanos go in the lows since 99% of the time you'll be cloaked and can't use an AD/MWD mod. |

The 2 highs is not such a big deal at the moment. However it is going to seriously cripple it in the "worth flying" stakes if covert cyno and blackops mechanics get reworked to be usefull in eve combat.
Then you really are going to be in a situation of cloak+probe+cyno or gtfo.

I never said to fit a gun. I said using a set of damps will get you on a killboard. That and your one drone of course.
and re the speed, definitely put nano's or isabs in lows. I mean what else are you going to fit? Damage control so it lasts more than half a volley and almost a whole one?
I trained up for the Cheetah just to optimise a bit of extra speed but the fitting req's were disappointing.
Recons and cov-ops are my absolute favourite ships btw. Scouting, scanning, sneaking, infiltrating are far more satisfying than the actual combat these days.
Finding targets or safe routes for your gang earns a lot of respect :D |

It's beneficial as a reminder - if you see horror, you have forgotten to cloak up.
