After a lot of time spent in PvP, I'm planning to start an alt specialized in industry.
How many skillpoints do I need to have a successful character, one that can invent ships or modules, produce them and sell them on the market for a good profit?
Are we in the range of 10 mil SP or more in the range of 20 mil?
Also, which profit can i expect to do monthly? |

Edited by: Acrel on 11/01/2009 16:16:37 For one there is no way to tell you what exact profit you can make considering theres alot of factors involved. If you plan on buying your minerals and data cores from the market to invent and manufacture expect a little to no profit. Also region, FOTM, mineral prices all come into play. And with invention its chance base so luck is something else you need and alot money up front if you plan to make a profit.
Skills wise if you plan to mine/manufacture/haul/sell all your stuff expect in the 15-20m SP MINIMIUM. Depending on how focused your production is and inventing.
Would recommend if you just need a alt to fund you PVP train a l4 mission runner. Will save you alot of time and money.

Depends, naturally. If you want to do a complete end-to-end, you're looking well north of 20 mil. If you're only looking at doing one part of the manufacturing chain -- and depending on which part -- you might be able to get away with five mil and be happy with the profit. Just don't expect to be a T2 manufacturing and distribution powerhouse at that point.

Really, really depends. A skillful, lucky trade speculator can make billions -- but only with massive initial capital. A novice T2 inventor is likely to lose about the same before seeing any profit. Which area are you looking at first? |

I was thinking about the invention and manufacture of the T2 modules most sold on the market, the ones used in PvP setups.
The problem with a mission running alt is that your income is fixed and proportional to the time you actually play the game. When I'm logged I want in first place to be fighting, so I'm searching for an alt which requires only a small bit of attention, let's say 15-20 minutes a day or one play session a week.
Also trading is interesting, but it seems to me that profitable niches are filled quite quickly and it is difficult to make it a steady source of income without a huge capital (5+ bil) and a lot of time spent adjusting order prices. |

If you plan on only wanting to log on that guy for 15-20min at a time dont expect a good profit.. Theres alot more then people believe when it comes to inventing/research/manufacturing. You have to know that market pretty well and keep up with it almost daily or else you may lose alot in investments.
Not only that but you need a large initial investment if you want to be successful, since you will have to buy BPOs, buy and maintain a POS for research/inventing. |

If there was a way in EVE to make a decent income with only a few minutes game play a day, do you think that the GTC's would be so cheap?
This is EVE and just like in the "real world™" you cannot make millions without investing at big and spending quite a bit of time on it. The fastest easiest way to generate income is by selling GTC's, but that is spending "real world™" money on it. If you are not willing to do that like me, you will have to reduce your expenses or up your income. A simple alt with a few skills will not help you to generate a lot of ISK, certainly not if you are not willing to spend the time to make it happen, and or if yo are already short on ISK as it is. |

you'll need:
Advanced Mass Production level 4 Advanced Laboratory Operation level 4 Science level 5 Mechanic level 5 Industry level 5 Production Efficiency level 5 Research Level 4 (5 should only take 4 and a bit days) Metallurgy Level 4
If you want to do Tech 2 manufacturing/Invention then check on the bpo/bpc that will tell you the skills you need.
If you are going to Buy the minerals you'll need the trading skills
If you are going to mine the minerals you'll need:
Exhumers level 4 Mining and Astrogeology Level 5 Refining Level 5 Refinery Efficiency Level 3 for High sec ores, 4 for Low sec, 5 for Null Sec [Ore] Processing Level 4
So you're looking at atleast 20 million if not more so a full year of training (i've only got 11 million at this point, so still a while for me, plus all my other training off-shots) |

I log my alt in for around an hour every 10 days and make around 700mil a month. True it took a lot of time and money to get to that stage, but the answer is t2 bpos. Get a good one and you're set. Additionally if you manage to get a good one, you need very few skills to make cash off it. The ones listed above are a good start though.
