The dedicated fans of E@B have managed to bring the game back to life - apparently the devs are conducting a closed beta and some open stress tests of the rebuilt E&B universe.
Has anybody actually tried it?
If itĘs good maybe the eve devs could go try it, maybe learn a thing or two. ItĘs sort of a shame that E&B was/is a better game in some limited respects (particularly PvE) almost 5 years after EA killed it then eve.

I would have liked to play the game, but I learned of it long after it was canceled.
A run down of it/comparison to eve would be fantastic, because I've been loosely following the emulators progress. |

A full comparison to Eve would take a while to write. Suffice to say that the game was flawed - and never got a subscription base above 30k - It had no real pvp and was pretty tiny in size, only about 30 systems.
However
It was beautiful and immersive and space was full of interesting things to explore (unlike eve). And some of the rats could 1 shot you so you actually had to pay attention. It also had ambulation, and while it didnĘt have the same complexity in its market, it had some interesting twists like player made modules that were anywhere up to 100% better then the standard "tech 1 mods."
If CCP had stolen all of E@Bs ideas when EVE was first launched then EVE would be a much better game.
I guess thatĘs why many people want to bring it back - .

I used to play ENB for a few years before it was cancelled, I was on the Andromeda server.
Some of the stuff I used to love about ENB was free warping, there wasn't the "Warp in a line between two celestial objects" like Eve is chained to.
It was rather cool to explore, I used to play a Jenquai Explorer.

The emulator is still in beta last I checked. I look forward to giving it a go once it's up and running. |

Heh, I was on Andro too, had a 150 JD, and 150 PW. JD was by far more fun for me.
I just got my fishbowl energy beam, which I had to trade my PW's V'rix reactor for a pirate feather, when they announced ENB was closing . But EnB was tons of fun, transitioning to EVE was fun (OMG TURRETS ROTATE WTF!) |

I absolutely loved EnB and still mourn its loss to this day. I, too, have heard the rumors of the emulator, but I'm not interested. One of the biggest things that made EnB special was it's absolutely amazing, expansive, and evolving storyline. I have yet to see/hear of an MMOG that has duplicated this experience. And unfortunately, I don't think that can be properly emulated. I worry that an emulator would just seem like a sad, empty shell |

this was my first MMO!! I thought the content that was available was good, but you could only fly 1 ship and although there were only 30 systems, it would take you ages to fly anywhere. I was a Terran something (not the trader, the figher type) It would certainly be cool to check it out again.

Interesting.
I was in EnB for a short time before it went **** up and the larger part of the community decamped to EVE.
Can't say I miss it that much; it was too small, the lack of decent pvp sucked and the decent spawns were camped to death by the same guys all the time. Ship choice (non-existant) and set-up was also very primitive compared to EVE.
The only thing I really miss is being able to get out of the ship and strut my funky stuff at the Jenquai Disco on whatever station (been a while, I forget where it was)... oh, and customisable ship colours was nice too.

Don't worry, the Devs working on the EMU have all the original storyline that was release after ENB shutdown. Westwood had something like 5+ more years already written down and planned out before EA ruined it.
The team will be creating and adding new sectors and items and mobs to the game as the emu grows. They are even adding the 3 "new" classes that were never released in the live game. |

If true that's awesome. The storyline was released just before or after it closed and not even 10% of what was planned made it to the game.
I never had the patience to put up with the camping to get to the end game - I think my highest player was a 90 JE (Galileo - go SCC) - but I remember it fondly and still occasionally have dreams about playing EnB. |

EnB was my first MMO too, so I still have a soft spot for it. On the other hand I did leave it to come to Eve as people were talking about it in EnB while eve was still in beta and for me it was ticking all the boxes that EnB had missed, or chosen not to bother to have as part of their game (I still remember the disbelieving talk in local chat that Eve would have thousands of systems and - get this - aimed to have as many as 5000 people on the server at the same time ).
EnB did start to feel small quite quickly, the feel was quite cartoony I thought which didn't fit as well as eve with what I like in science fiction, the evolving backstory was very engaging and I remember enjoying a sense of being involved in it as it progressed but the painful simplicity of the V'rix 'coded' communication completely destroyed my suspension of disbelief every time - seriously, an ancient, advanced, space-faring civilization and the best they could come up with was replacing the vowels and 'y' with the numbers 1-6? Well, that and a simple double letter substitution code that was more monotonous than challenging to decipher . Similarly the fact that your ship was only ever disabled but never destroyed started to get to me after a while. Maybe it's a strange kind of MMO masochism but Eve's harsh death penalty was one of the main reasons I chose to leave EnB.
Still, it's nice to see it back in some form. It certainly died before its time (or was taken around the back by EA and beaten into a coma, depending on your point of view). I'd definitely go back to it for a play around, but it'd still feel like a bit of a cartoony diversion from Eve I think |

Heh, I remember back in the days of EnB I could read V'rix fluently. Without even a hesitation to translate, I could read or type anything with that simple code :) |
